Potomac River Curve Ball

After finishing in 6th place at my last ABA/BASS Bassmaster Weekend Series Tournament, I had a disappointing follow-up finish this past weekend on the Potomac River. I finished in 50th place on our 4th tournament of the year and failed to do what I had made my goal at the beginning of the year and that was to just catch a limit at every event and let the consistency factor take it course. The finished dropped me from 7th in the AOY standings to a 9th place tie.
I had been practicing all week long all the way up …read more

Sweet Redemption’s A 6th Place Finish

To understand why a 6th place finish would be sweet redemption, you have to know the history of me and the Upper Chesapeake Bay. Last year going into this same tournament I was sitting 3rd in the points standings. The Bay proved tough for most of the field including me. Unfortunately I zeroed and dropped to 18th in the points standings and missed my opportunity to qualify for the Bassmaster Series National Championship. Well this year was different.
I got down to start pre-fishing for the ABA/BASS Bassmaster Weekend Series, Maryland Division tournament on Thursday with a buddy of mine who was …read more

A Disappointing Finish Considering

This past weekends Bassmaster Series, Maryland Division tournament didn’t end up exactly the way I had hoped for.  In some regards it did, but overall it was disappointing as far as I am concerned considering that if there is any one place I would expect to compete for a win, it would be on Lake Anna. But even with the bad, there is always some good to be had.
Before the morning of the tournament, I pretty much had an idea of how I was going to execute the day of fishing. I felt like I was on a pretty …read more

This Weekends Goal?

If you haven’t heard me say it yet, than my goal for the year is to remain consistent. I am trying to change my approach to the tournament season from last year. After finishing outside of the top 8 last year, my focus is going to be limits in an attempt to fish for points rather than the win. Even though the Bassmaster Series has implemented a regional tournament in which the top 40 from each division advance rather the top 8 from each division going straight to the national like last year. Once I have shooed myself into the top …read more

1st BWS Maryland Div. Tournament of the Year in the Books

After the scheduled day of the event was postponed until Sunday due to high winds and a small craft advisory in effect, the first tournament of the year for the Bassmaster Weekend Series, Maryland Division on the Potomac River got underway.
At the pairing the night before the tournament, the field consisted of 100 boats. After it was announced that the tournament will be postponed until Sunday, the field dropped to 78 boats due to a number of anglers unable to fish because of prior commitments. Had the field remained at 100, it would have been the largest field of the …read more

BWS MD Division Tournament Postponed

My first ABA/BASS Bassmaster Series tournament was scheduled for today but since I am obviously sitting here writing this, most of you can  already tell I am not out fishing. Due to typical heavy northern winds that consume the river this time of year, the tournament was postponed until tomorrow (Sunday) giving the anglers one more shot at conquering the river.
Last year the re-schedule would not have been possible due to tournament days falling on Sunday. This year, since the tournaments are all scheduled on Saturdays, missed opportunities such as the one we were faced with today don’t have …read more

Military Team Bass Fishing Tournament & ABAA

Since the mid 1970’s, the American Bass Anglers Association (ABAA), formerly known as the Military Bass Anglers Association (MBAA), has been providing highly competitive tournament circuits for anglers across the nation. Much of its history revolves around military member participation, which is the organizations grass roots. Initially formed to provide a way of bringing together the different branches of military services in a competitive way of creating comroderie, the ABAA soon branched out and soon were offering circuits to the general angling public.
Announced this week was that the ABAA will again increase their participation with the Armed Forces by operating …read more
