Nadal and Roddick Say Tennis Season Too Long

Tennis stars, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick feel that the off-season is not long enough for players to rest and recover from competition. “It’s impossible to play 1st of January and finish 5th of December,” said Nadal. “It’s impossible to be here playing like what I did the last five years, playing a lot of matches and being all the time 100 per cent without problems.”
After pointing out the fact that Federer skipped the Shanghai Masters due to fatigue, Roddick added: “It’s ridiculous to think that you have a professional sport that doesn’t have a legitimate off-season to rest, get …read more

The battle between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick at the 2009 Wimbledon men’s final was epic, lasting four hours and 16 minutes. Roddick appeared to be in top form against the Swiss great and right until the very last point, it really could have been anyone’s match but, in the end, it was Federer who won the title.
Although, it was later revealed that Roddick had suffered an injury during the match, it was clearly a historic day for tennis since Federer became the great men’s champion ever by capturing his 15th Grand Slam title (edging out Pete Sampras who sat …read more

The officials at the U.S. Open have made their message to the players very clear – be careful what you tweet. So many people love Twitter but this warning underscores the dangers associated with the popular social networking site.
Apparently, a signed has been posted all over the place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from the players’ lounge to the locker rooms (and even the referee’s office) with a headline: “Important. Player Notice. Twitter Warning.”
The message goes on to say: “Many of you will have Twitter accounts in order for your fans to follow you and to …read more

American Andy Roddick took on Russia’s Igor Andreev at the Roger’s Cup yesterday and emerged with a 6-1, 7-6 (6) victory. I watched the match and Andreev seemed out of his depth during the first set and I was wondering if Roddick was going to be challenged at all when the Russian suddenly perked up. It became a lot more interesting but Roddick was able to pull out a win.
I have to admit that, although I’ve always liked Roddick, I gained a lot of respect for him after he took on Roger Federer at Wimbledon last month and it seems …read more
Del Potro Beats Roddick at Legg Mason

Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro emerged the victor at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic after he beat top-seeded American, Andy Roddick, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) in the final yesterday. Roddick has won this event three times in the past (2001, 2005 and 2007) but his experience wasn’t enough to hold off Del Potro, last year’s winner. This is the first time this event was won back-to-back by the same person since Andre Agassi did it back in 1998-1999.
The win wasn’t completely easy for second-seeded Del Potro. He had to battle back after blowing three match points in the tie-breaker and …read more

Andy Roddick did everything he could to win at Wimbledon this year. He battled Roger Federer into one of the longest Wimbledon finals in history and left everything he had on the court. Unfortunately, he suffered a hip injury in the process. Fortunately, the 26-year-old is putting it all behind him.
USA Today quotes Roddick as saying the following: “I was heartbroken. But I know not a lot of people get a chance to play at that level. Ten seconds after the final, I still realized it’s a pretty special thing. At Wimbledon, adrenaline helped a great deal with the injury. …read more

Andy Roddick’s right hip flexor injury continues to plague him and now the tennis star has had to withdraw from the upcoming tournament in Indianapolis. He won the Indy title in both 2003 and 2004.
Indianapolis tournament director, Kevin Martin, weighed in on the development: “We are obviously very disappointed that Andy will not be able to return to Indianapolis, but we support his decision 100 percent to put his health first. We know that some fans have planned their vacations and a night out with friends around Andy’s Tuesday night play and potential to earn his third title on finals …read more

It looks like Andy Roddick suffered more than a bruised ego during his loss to Roger Federer at this year’s Wimbledon finals. If you saw the match, you’ll know that Roddick seemed to give everything he had in his attempt to win the tournament and now it appears that he suffered an injury to his right hip flexor in the process. The picture below is from the match so you have to wonder if this was the moment when he hurt himself. Either way, he never let it show and he fought a great battle.
Unfortunately, the injury has caused him …read more
Federer Wins Wimbledon After Tight Match

If it had been anyone but Roger Federer, America’s Andy Roddick would have won the men’s final today at Wimbledon. Unfortunately, the amazingly tight match ended up with Federer celebrating his record-setting 15th major title. There was a great Nike commercial congratulating the Swiss star for his huge accomplishment and I thought it was pretty amazing that some of sport’s biggest names were included (John McEnroe, Michael Jordan, Serena Williams and more). I’ll put it up when it becomes available.
Roddick left it all on the court and he was clearly devastated by the loss. He went over to the bench …read more

Andy Murray’s hopes of becoming the first Brit in more than seven decades to win the men’s title at Wimbledon were dashed when he lost to American, Andy Roddick, in the semifinal match. Murray did not go down without a fight – it took 3 hours and 7 minutes but, in the end, it was Roddick who advanced to Sunday’s final match.
The 26-year-old will have his work cut out for him when he faces five-time champion, Roger Federer, who has set a record for making the championship match at Wimbledon seven times in a row. Federer defeated Tommy Haas of …read more
