Kim Takes Care of Allenby to Reach Finals

It was deja vu all over again for Robert Allenby, after the Australian was beat once again by American Anthony Kim, this time at the World Match Play Championship.  This time there was no accusations of Kim’s alleged partying the night before the match, as Allenby had done earlier this month when the two squared off at the Presidents Cup.  But the result was the same, as Kim advances to Sunday’s final against Ross Fisher.  Fisher made the final after handling Masters champ Angel Cabrera.
As was to be expected, there was a bit of contention between Kim and Allenby during …read more

Paul Casey Loses Twice, Out in Spain

It was two and done for Paul Casey, the top-ranked player in this week’s World Match Play Championship in Spain.  The Brit failed to progress out of the group stage after losing both his matches today.  Casey lost to 168th-ranked Scott Strange of Australia, then to American Ryder Cup player Anthony Kim to cap off a most miserable day.  But to be fair, Casey did just return from tearing a rib muscle on August 6, which may or may not have affected his play today.
Kim ended the day atop Group A, thanks to his win over Retief Goosen.  Group C …read more

Allenby Apologizes to Kim Over Remarks

Seems like Robert Allenby is feeling a little remorseful.  After calling out Anthony Kim for doing what many 24-year-olds do, the Australian has said he has personally apologized to Kim for the comments he made.  To refresh your memory, Allenby called Kim the “current John Daly” and the U.S. Presidents Cup team’s “loosest cannon.”  He also claimed that Kim had been out partying until 4 a.m. the night before their singles match, and that Kim had come back to the U.S. team’s hotel walking “sideways.”  Not that it mattered, Kim soundly defeated Allenby in their singles match.

Robert Allenby Calls Out Anthony Kim

Talk about your sour grapes.  Australia’s Robert Allenby, playing for the Presidents Cup International team, called out American Anthony Kim after the 24-year-old shortly after Kim had bested Allenby in singles play.  Allenby made reference to an unconfirmed report that Kim had been out until 4 a.m. on Saturday night, and that he had returned to the hotel “sideways.”  Allenby then went on to call Kim “the current John Daly,” and the “loosest cannon” on the U.S. team.
Kim, of course, denied the report, and hoped that Allenby was joking.
“I’m actually pretty surprised that he said that,” Kim said. “I was …read more

What a Difference a Year Makes

So much for an encore.  The four finalists in the 2008 FedEx Cup, eventual winner Vijay Singh, runner-up Camilo Villegas, Sergio Garcia and Anthony Kim, delivered a big dud in this year’s version of golf’s season-ending playoff.  In 2008, Singh was firing on all cylinders as he won the first two FedEx Cup playoff events, and had the $10 million bonus clinched before the Tour Championship even got underway.  This year, Singh didn’t even make it out of the second round, an end to an altogether unforgettable 2009 season, which saw the big Fijian miss six cuts, the most of …read more

Tiger Rallies to Victory at AT&T National

Tiger Woods wasn’t exactly the greatest host at the AT&T National, rallying to overtake Hunter Mahan to win his own tournament by one stroke.  The day started out with Woods and Anthony Kim tied after 54 holes, but the 24 year old Kim faltered early, dropping four shots in four holes on the front nine, and finished the day with a 71.  His 9-under left him four strokes back of Woods, alone in third place.
Woods’ main challenge on this day came from Hunter Mahan, who finished the day tied for the lead after a birdie on the 18th.  Mahan’s round …read more

Woods, Kim Share Lead at AT&T National

The stage is set for a great Sunday finish at the AT&T National, as Tiger Woods and Anthony Kim sit atop a very crowded leaderboard at 10-under after third round action.  The pair are going to be challenged on the final day though, as Cameron Beckman and Michael Allen stand one stroke back at 9-under, and Jim Furyk and Rod Pampling are two strokes behind Woods and Kim at 8-under.  U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover shot a 2-under 68 for the round and finds himself three strokes behind the leaders, still within striking distance.
Woods began the day one stroke ahead …read more

Woods Takes Over Lead at AT&T National

It looks like Tiger Woods meant it when he said that he wanted to be a “greedy host” at the AT&T National.  Woods followed up his opening round 64 with an impressive 4-under 66 to leave him at 10-under for the tournament.  His 36 hole score sets a new Congressional scoring record, besting the previous record of 9-under held by Tom Pernice Jr. and Jeff Overton.
First round leader Anthony Kim couldn’t capitalize on his terrific opening round 62, falling behind Woods by two strokes after shooting a round of even par for the day.  Former U.S. Open winner Jim Furyk …read more

Kim Returns to Form at AT&T National

After winning last year’s AT&T National, the expectations for young and talented Anthony Kim were through the roof.  But instead of tour victories and prize money, Kim has had to endure poor play, nagging injuries, and self doubt.  It seems though that the cure for Kim’s ills is to play at the Congressional, after setting a course record 8-under 62 today to sit atop the leaderboard at this year’s AT&T National.  Ignoring doctor’s advice not to play for the next 4-6 weeks because of a left thumb injury, Kim came out firing on all cylinders, knocking down 8 birdies in …read more
