I was watching the live feed of the MacWorld 09 keynote over at MacRumors via their macrumorslive.com web site. Suddenly some random messages started to appear, one of them even said “Steve Jobs just died”.
It was soon followed by profanity and some sleazy messages. MacRumors was hacked. The site went down after some time. As of this writing the site is still down.

So WWDC starts tomorrow. I am pretty psyched about the possibilities of what could be coming. But the best part, I think, of being a part of the Apple Community is that we can get excited together.

Over the next week, we are running a contest on The After Mac. We are going to give away 2 licenses to TextExpander. I wrote a post last week about how great TextExpander is. (Writing about it has actually gotten me using it more, and surprisingly, the more you use it, the more useful it becomes.) Jean from over at Smile On My Mac gave me two licenses to give away and I thought WWDC (a second Christmas for Mac fans) would be a good time to give away some extra presents prizes.

So here are the rules:

Only on topic comments will be counted as entries.

Use your name and email address. Anonymous comments won’t count.

Apple fanatics can sometimes cause disagreements. That’s ok. Just keep it civil.

So keep your eyes open for new posts as the details emerge from this year’s WWDC. Be a part of the conversation and get a shot at one of two licenses for the amazing TextExpander.

Tags: WWDC, Apple Community, TextExpander, Contest

I can’t wait. If there was a tree and colorful lights in the livingroom, I’d think it was Christmas. I am excited. I am dying to here the Steve Jobs Keynote. I am talking with friends, speculating on just how good it might be. I am lamenting with friends about my potential disappointments and they aren’t even here yet.

Only 13 more days until WWDC!!!!

I don’t ever remember getting myself so hyped up over a particular present that getting it was anti-climatic and not getting it was crushing, but that is how I feel leading into every major announcement from Apple these days. The rumor engine gets going and there is no hope of being satisfied.

We want Steve’s keynote to be spectacular, but we already know what he is going to say (or at least we think we do). If he says what we expect… well… that was what he was supposed to say. We’ve known that for weeks. If he lets us down… we’re the three year old standing amidst thousands of dollars of presents throwing a tantrum because we got Malibu Barbie instead of ballerina Barbie (and we all know that kind of thing leads to killing sprees (see Adam’s Family Values)).

So here’s my Christmas List WWDC List for this year. And since I’ve been peeking, I am pretty sure I know what I’ll be getting.

A New iPhone – Not just any iPhone, mind you, but something mind blowing.

3G (or better)

Worldwide travel capable (including Japan and Korea)

More storage

Cheaper (or at least cheaper for the locked version with an unlocked version at current price).

Video

iChat (preferably utilizing the above mentioned video

Basic MMS picture/video messaging (I know that you can send pictures via email, but my Mother-in-law can’t receive pictures via email so I need plain old boring MMS like any other piece of crap phone can do).

Application store

Music/TV/Movies downloadable over 3G

GPS integrated into other apps more tightly (geo-tagging pictures, for instance).

?????

At this point, the iPhone is basically it. I mean I know we are getting the iPhone and it is going to fulfill my every dream (sarcasm), but what else? I would really like a new computer, personally. The Mac pro is out of my price range and everything else just isn’t quite what I want (other than maybe the MacBook Air). But nobody is talking about anything else.

So at this point, Steve better come through with the iPhone. You are going to have a lot of disappointed 3 year olds if you don’t. And if all you come out with is what is listed above, expect to sell a bunch, but expect a huge yawn from the crowd rather than a standing ovation. We already know we are getting that. Give us something more.

What are you hoping for in the iPhone? Or better yet, what are you hoping for other than the iPhone, because honestly, even though I want one (and plan on getting one soon), I am tired of hearing about it.

Hello! My name is Chris Marsden and I am the newest member of TheAfterMac.com blogging team. I have been a lover of technology since a young age and have been on and off Apple Computers since they were actually called Apple computers.

In 2005 I took the plunge and bought my first Mac computer that I could call my very own. I had graduated from a design program that used strictly Mac computers owning nothing but a PC. Now that I was out in "the real world" where everyone uses PC, I was buying a Mac. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My background includes programming, graphic/web design, audio production & video production (analog and digital). These days I mostly stick to writing, design, and consulting. I love helping people find solutions to problems. That’s where blogging fits in.

I’ve been blogging on my personal site (chrismarsden.com) since 2005 and am excited to bring my love for Mac, GTD, and how those things fit into my everyday, "real world", PC dominated life, to the greater Apple Mac community. I say community, because that is what owning a Mac brings. Owning a Mac gives you an instant connection with other Mac users. You can’t help but say hi to another Mac user when you bump into them at a coffee shop… or maybe it’s just me.

So… stay tuned for Mac news, how to articles, and tips and tricks on using your Mac to its full potential. And if you see me hanging out at the local cafe with my Mac out, stop and say hi. And in case it’s not me, stop and say hi anyways. And don’t forget to tell them about TheAfterMac.com!

I know Zinio has been around for a long time, however it’s just now that I decided to go ahead and try subscribing to a magazine from Zinio instead of buying the dead tree version. It’s just been a hassle to go out and buy the magazine from the news stand, plus I’m in front of my computer for most of the day and the fact that it’s cheaper, these three made me say “what the heck, let’s try it”. Try I did. I’m sure most of you can guess what my first mag of choice is, granted it’s the [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

I know Zinio has been around for a long time, however it’s just now that I decided to go ahead and try subscribing to a magazine from Zinio instead of buying the dead tree version. It’s just been a hassle to go out and buy the magazine from the news stand, plus I’m in front of my computer for most of the day and the fact that it’s cheaper, these three made me say “what the heck, let’s try it”. Try I did. I’m sure most of you can guess what my first mag of choice is, granted it’s the only Mac magazine available at Zinio, so I subscribed to Macworld for a year. Not bad, for $19.97 I get to enjoy Macworld for a year. I was initially just going to get a single issue but for 6 bucks per issue, I said, what the hey, let’s go the distance.

So I’m now a subscriber of Macworld. Let’s see how this goes…

Do any of you use Zinio? Please give me your feedback. Does Zinio reader for the Mac work well for you?

According to this post on the Adium Blog, the guys behind Adium are hard at work on making video and audio work on Adium. Now that’s something most people have been waiting for.
I’m a happy Adium user. Most of the time it works well for me. I like the fact that I only need one client to open various messaging clients, I however still use iChat and Skype for video and audio. I’d like to see the day that I can just use one app.

Video and audio chats are really becoming more mainstream in this day and age. In fact most of my communications pass by messaging or video/audio conference as well as email. I hardly use my phone line to talk to people. So these features will be a welcome addition to Adium.
