Apple unveils Magic Mouse, new MacBooks

Amid an atypical lack of fanfare, Apple today has upgraded its line of iMacs, plastic unibody MacBooks, Mac Minis, and unveiled the long-rumored “Magic Mouse,” the multitouch replacement for the Mighty Mouse. Let’s look at each one.
The biggest news is the Magic Mouse. Apple has always struggled when it comes to making a really useful mouse, but initial impressions of this one is that it could be the winner Mac users have been waiting for. It uses the patented multi-touch technology Apple has used to great success on the iPhone and last-generation MacBooks.
The device has a low-profile top shell that’s …read more
The not-so-Mighty Mouse

Apple has officially lost the right to use “Mighty Mouse” as the name of its current-gen iMac mouse. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded the trademark for that name to a different company.
Apple’s Mighty Mouse first arrived in mid-2005 as a peripheral exclusively for use with Mac OS X. It was met with mixed reviews, which over time have turned decidedly negative. Users have been turned off by the non-useful side buttons, the on-again-off-again Bluetooth connection the wireless Mighty Mouse has with the iMac, and the problematic track ball on top.

When the blessed Steve Jobs descends from on high to impart his world-changing Apple touchpad computing device upon us mere mortals, we all know it’s going to be revolutionary. But we didn’t know how revolutionary until now.
Gizmodo is reporting insider information that the iPad will do a lot more than surf the web and run iPhone apps. Apple is looking to take on Amazon’s Kindle, too — and redefine what an ebook is. A big push of the iPad will be into the arena of college textbooks, where Apple believes it can present a more appealing opportunity to textbook publishers …read more
First-ever Mac to be auctioned

UPDATE: Profiles in History has released a correction that indicates that they’ve just learned of a mistake in their earlier claim. Apparently the Macintosh Plus in question was originally an early production Macintosh 128, which was upgraded to a Macintosh Plus by Apple at Roddenberry’s request. So the serial number matches the Mac 128 model instead of the Plus, and it was not the first model off the assembly line. Thanks to Profiles in History for clarifying this misunderstanding.
Did you know the very first Apple Macintosh computer to ever roll off the assembly line was given to Star Trek creator …read more

Sick As A Dog

I’ve been sick as a dog the past week. I’m actually still quite sick and this is the first time I’ve sat up this long to type in an entry. What a time not to be connected huh?
Apple unloads the new iPod Shuffle with nary a clue. There was very little inkling that it would come out. So imagine my surprise when I saw the Apple announcement in my inbox.
Add to that there’s iPhone 3.0 which is scheduled to be previewed on March 17. I just hope I’ll be well enough to check that out as it happens.
As we can …read more
Computerworld Reviews The 17 inch MacBook Pro

According to Ken Mingis of Computerworld, the new 17″ MacBook Pro rocks! Well granted, he got the top of the line, 5,000 dollar version with the 256GB Solid State Drive and 2.93 Ghz processor.
Still what he writes is nothing short of amazing. He particularly loves the screen of the new MBP.
The integrated battery is also great but battery life is dependent on the usage. The author got about 6 hours of battery life out of it. Not bad for this monster.
