Chris Young Hits Three Homers and Loses

The Arizona Diamondbacks are finishing off a disappointing 2009 campaign. On Sunday, there was more frustration. Despite getting three home runs from Chris Young, the D’Backs got blown out by the Colorado Rockies by a final count of 13-5.
Coming into the game with seven homers on the season, Young was 3-for-3 with three solo shots and two walks. It was a bright spot for an otherwise nightmare season for Young. Even after the homers, he’s hitting just .198 with ten homers, 31 RBIs and 39 runs. As recently as last year, Young was considered one of the better up-and-coming outfielders …read more

Jason Giambi Paying Off for the Rockies

About two weeks ago, the Colorado Rockies signed Jason Giambi. It hasn’t taken the slugger long to find a useful role on his new ballclub.
On Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Giambi had a pinch hit game-winning at-bat in the 8th inning when he broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI single. In three pinch hit at-bats, Giambi is perfect at the plate and has knocked in four runs.
Giambi’s production is coming at a key time for Colorado. In the NL Wild Card race, the Rockies lead the San Francisco Giants by 1 game and the Florida Marlins by 4 games. …read more

Jim Thome and John Garland to the Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t dominating the National League like they were earlier in the season. On Monday, the club brought in some reinforcements by trading for Jim Thome and John Garland.
Thome comes from the Chicago White Sox where he was hitting .249 with 23 homers, 55 runs and 74 RBIs. The 39-year-old has solely been a designated hitter in the last couple years. With that in mind, he may simply be used as a pinch hitter by the Dodgers.
“We’re bring him here to come off the bench and be a great influence in the clubhouse,” said Dodgers GM Ned …read more

Minnesota Twins Trade for Jon Rauch

To add depth to their bullpen, the Minnesota Twins have acquired Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Jon Rauch. The 6-foot-11 right-hander will help the Twins in their push to make the 2009 baseball playoffs.
On the season, Rauch has a 4.14 ERA in 58 appearances. He has a record of 2-2 to go along with two saves and 12 holds. Since the All-Star break, Rauch has an ERA of 3.68.
The Twins can desperately use Rauch’s arm in their bullpen. Closer Joe Nathan has been fantastic and Jose Mijares and Matt Guerrier have been very good, however the depth basically ends there. Rauch gives …read more

Scott Schoeneweis to DL with Depression

Scott Schoeneweis, a relief pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, has been sent to the disabled list due to depression. The source of his depression is understandable  — his wife was found dead a few months ago.
At the time of his wife’s death, Schoeneweis had an ERA of 2.53. However, after a rough stretch as of late, Schoeneweis has seen his ERA skyrocket to 8.24. In his last outing against the Washington Nationals, he gave up four earned runs in less than an inning of work.
The 35-year-old spent his last two years in the majors with the New York Mets. Schoeneweis …read more

Brandon Webb Surgery – Out for the Season

Over the course of the last four season, Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. This season, he never got a chance to show what he can do. This weekend, Webb decided to have shoulder surgery to repair an injury that has kept him off the mound since opening day.
In his only start this season, Webb gave up six earned runs in four innings. In the last three years, he’s had at least 16 wins and an ERA no higher than 3.30. In 2006, Webb was selected as the National League Cy …read more

Albert Pujols Leads Cardinals over D’Backs

After being the star of the All-Star festivities that took place in St. Louis, Albert Pujols was back to work on Friday. Against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pujols hit two homers to help the Cardinals win by a final count of 6-1.
In the fourth inning, Pujols hit a solo shot to put the Cardinals up 1-0. The Cardinals doubled their lead to 2-0 when Pujols hit a homer in the sixth inning. Thanks to Chris Carpenter, that’s all St. Louis needed to score.
In eight innings, Carpenter carved up the D’Backs. He scattered seven hits and one walk while striking out seven …read more

Brandon Webb Injury News – Ailing Shoulder

Brandon Webb, the ace of the Arizona Diamondbacks pitching staff, is dealing with an ailing shoulder. The stiffness in the joint will cause him to miss his next scheduled start. Currently, the team doesn’t believe this is a long-term injury.
Webb has had a lot of success in recent years. In 2006, he was the National League Cy Young award winner. Last season, he led the NL with 22 wins. In his career, Webb has a record of 87-62 to go along with a sparkling 3.27 ERA.
His first start this season, however, was a disaster. Pitching against the Colorado Rockies, Webb …read more

NASCAR and MLB Go Hand-In-Hand

Last September, Arizona Diamondbacks owner Jeff Moorad joined a group that bought controlling interests of Hall of Fame Racing from its original owners, Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach. Now, with NASCAR heading to Phoenix International Raceway this weekend, the dual-sports team owner is striving to bring his two products together.
On Wednesday, Cup Series star and HOF Racing driver of the no. 96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry, J.J. Yeley, drove his car out of the right field bullpen and along the warning track at Chase Field in Arizona. This Saturday night during the Sprint Cup Series’ running of the Subway Fresh …read more
