Because his father is Kirk Ferentz, the Hawkeyes head coach.

Lil Ferentz is a center for the team and was arrested along with fullback Tyler Christensen and tight end Zach Derby. Christensen reportedly pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal mischief and public intoxication. He’ll pay fines of nearly $500. Both Ferentz and Derby have pleaded not guilty.

University public safety officers say that Derby and Christensen attempted to pick a fight with an off-duty officer around 2 am on Monday. He called for backup, and they say that while the responding officers were talking to the two, Ferentz came over from a nearby parking lot “yelling and screaming.” He reportedly blow a BAC of .160.

Kirk Ferentz has said in a statement that his son and the other two boys are suspended for the remainder of spring practice and further team participation is pending. We’re betting that he’s also grounded and not allowed to have desserts for a month.

This James Ferentz’s second strike – he was cited for underage alcohol possession in October. Following that charge, he was ordered to go to counseling sessions and participate in community service.

Now while what he did was wrong in Las Vegas, did his prior transgressions come into play? If he wasn’t the world most popular <strike>murderer</strike> acquitted murderer, would law enforcement be looking to throw the book at him?

Although this case could have been a witch hunt, karma could have been at work. Anyone dumb enough to <strike>kill his wife</strike> get off of a murder charge and then put himself in another legal predicament deserves what he gets — at least theoretically.

What do you think? Was OJ Simpson a victim of a legal witch hunt? Was it karma? Or was it the court of law just doing its job?

This guy cannot catch a break! O.J. Simpson was pulled over early Monday morning by the Nevada Highway Patrol after the unit received a call from someone at a gas station stating that Simpson appeared to be drunk.
Simpson, who was on his way to Las Vegas for his trial, was pulled over, but the NHP said he did not appear to be under the influence.
Let’s just hope Simpson can stay out of trouble for the rest of his trial, one that quite possibly could land him some jail time.

From what I’ve read – it seems the players are getting off easy with a 15-day sentence. You have to wonder if OSU head coach Pat Casey will allow Reyes and Wallace to return to the club.

Apparently the other Jimmy Johns, a former linebacker at the University of Alabama, was arrested recently for selling cocaine to undercover officers.
Johns was also charged with possessing ecstasy pills. Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban dismissed Johns from team after learning of the charges.

I’m wondering how much this will bring up the Josh Howard “everyone does it” statement. Will the league begin to do something about it? Well, not right now. David Stern is a bit busy dancing since the Lakers are up 2-0 and the Celtics finally won a road game last night to go up 2-1. He’s on the verge of this dream Finals matchup. Can’t disturb him now, can we?
