Tyson Gay Fails to Qualify

Wow! The much-heralded and one of the favorites to win the men’s 100m event, Tyson Gay failed to qualify for the event in Saturday’s semi-final race. Gay finished fifth in his race, where only the top Four times advance. Gay told NBC after the race that he had no excuses and his leg felt 100 percent.
Among those qualifying for the 100m are Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell as well as Walter Dix and Darris Patton of the United States. The final will be run Sunday morning (Saturday night in North America).

Musings on the Olympics and How to Get In

It’s 2007. It’s the last year for all Olympic hopefuls to train and qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
How do you train exactly? How much time do you put in? How do you qualify?
Here are a few things I’ve heard that you have to endeavour:

train full-time to even have the slightest chance of qualifying
enter in major international competitions for your sport
be born with it, the talent or, er, the skill, that is

Powell’s Message to Gatlin

“That’s how you run a world record.” — Asafa Powell, Jamaica
Justin Gatlin is the Olympic gold medallist in 100m in the last Summer Olympics. He also holds the world record in the same event, 9.77 seconds, together with Powell.
However, in the recent British Grand Prix, Asafa Powell ran the world record time once again — his first was in June 2005 in Athens.
Gatlin withdrew from the running in the meet, reason being that there’s no contract for him to run against Powell. I reckon it’s just a strategy put in place by his agent.
