Google Buys Stakes in Maxthon Browser

This morning it was announced that Google had bought stakes in the Maxthon browser project. The idea is that Google will be able to gain more reach in China and switch some Baidu users over to Google.
Maxthon amounts to 25% of Baidu’s traffic and even had Baidu as its default search engine, but all of this is about to change as it is predicted that the default engine will change into Google across all countries.

Following Google’s switch from Intel based systems to AMD ones, Intel decided to partner with Baidu to develop search applications for laptops, mobile phones and desktop. Along with this agreement they has also agreed to equip all of Baidu’s systems with Intel processors…

This has been long waited, and I’ve tried to ignore it. Baidu IS a player in the search engine world. In fact, it still carries 50% of searches made in China who has (as of this moment) over 1.3 Billion, yes, that’s the one with the nine zeros.
It’s shares don’t rock the house as much as Google’s shares, but it is worth a look, and therefore a category on thig blog…
