In October, MySpace launched their MyAds advertising platform which allows businesses and individuals to create targeted ad campaigns on MySpace.

This do-it-yourself platform is simple to use. If you have used Google Adwords, then you will understand the set-up. Basically, you visit the MyAds page (you can click the “Advertise” link at the bottom of any MySpace page). Then, use the Builder Tool to create your display ad.

For each campaign, you select how much you want to spend. The minimum per click is $0.25 and the total for an entire campaign can range from $25 to $10,000. You can set a daily budget or a lifetime budget for each campaign. Next, you target your desired audience using MySpace’s HyperTargeting technology and then you are all set.

One drawback is that MySpace can’t guarantee the accuracy of demographics such as age, geographic location, etc. because that information is input by users and not verified by MySpace.

On a daily basis, keep an eye your ad’s performance by using the MyAds analytics reports. They are very straight forward and easy to understand. You can tweak low performing campaigns by changing the ad itself or the customers you are targeting. You can also change your campaign budget anytime you wish.

Since the platform was released to the public, it has been getting decent reviews from small businesses. Though MyAds won’t work well for all companies, since the average age on MySpace may be lower than your targeted audience, it’s a low risk opportunity. Many businesses are finding MySpace MyAds to be a good complement to their Google Adwords campaigns rather than a replacement.
