Cruz and Werth Named All-Stars

Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers and Jayson Werth of the Philadelphia Phillies have been named to the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Cruz will be replacing Torii Hunter, while Werth will be replacing Carlos Beltran.
Cruz is currently hitting .264 with 20 homers and 50 RBIs. The 29-year-old out of the Dominican Republic has already set career-highs in home runs and RBIs.
Werth is hitting .268 with 20 homers and 56 RBIs. After helping the Phillies capture the 2008 World Series title, the 30-year-old Werth is on pace to have the best season of his big league career.

The 2009 National League All-Star roster has been announced. Besides these players, the fans still have the power to vote in one final player. The players on that ballot are Cristian Guzman, Matt Kemp, Mark Reynolds, Pablo Sandoval and Shane Victorino.

Vote for Manny? Joe Torre Disagrees

Over the last few days, there’s been a lot of talk about the Vote for Manny campaign. Many baseball fans are voting for Manny Ramirez to make the 2009 All-Star Game — for various reasons. Some fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers want to see him play, while other baseball fans believe that Ramirez’s selection could force commissioner Bud Selig to make changes to the All-Star format.
However, don’t expect to see Dodgers manager Joe Torre vote for his suspended outfielder. When asked about Ramirez playing in the All-Star game, Torre had a simple retort.
