Drug Revelations from A-Rod Book

Mark your calendars for May 12th. That’s the date that the new “A-Rod book” comes out from Harper Collins. In the book, author Selena Roberts says Alex Rodriguez did steroids as far back as high school, and worse, that his coach at the time knew it.

The coach, Rich Hoffman, denies this.
One source says that the book, aptly titled A-Rod, “offers an unflattering portrait of the MVP slugger as a needy personality who wanted his ego stroked constantly.”
I doubt anyone cares about his big ego. Heck, we could figure that out by ourselves. The real issue is …read more

Sunny Days, Baseball and The Flip Camera

It’s that time of year again. Time to spend some hours at the park watching your kids play baseball and other sports right? That’s exactly what I did today and it was absolutely gorgeous here in Indianapolis. This is the second season my son will be playing baseball, but it’s the first year I’ve been able to get video of him and his team playing on my Flip Ultra video camera.
It’s absolutely perfect for this kind of stuff and came in really handy today. I was able to quickly get clips of each of his team members batting that I’m …read more

Mark Fidrych Dead at 54

Mark Fidrych (also called “the Bird”) was a likeable former player with the Tigers. He was found dead last week under the his truck in an apparent accident. He was only 54. How sad that just as the baseball season has begun, his former player was struck down. And much, much too young.

Fidrych was the “American League Rookie of the Year in 1976 when he went 19-9 with a 2.34 ERA and 24 complete games.” While he spent only five seasons with the Detroit Tigers, he made an impact as a fan favorite.

Angels Pitcher Dies in Car Accident

What a tragic story this is. Nick Adenhart, pitcher for the L.A. Angels, was killed by a “suspected” drunk driver last Thursday. He was only 22 years old.

What makes this one especially difficult to take is that the poor kid just dealt with elbow surgery and worked hard to make it into major league baseball. He was killed just a few hours after he ” made his season debut with his father in the stands, throwing six scoreless innings against the Oakland Athletics.”
Two other people were also killed.

Marlins Make Hanley Ramirez Chop His Locks

What’s the best way to treat a superstar baseball player? Make him cut his hair so he looks like everyone else.

At least, that’s what the Marlins must think. They just took a bunch of their players to the team hairstylist to get shorn for the upcoming season. That included none other than Hanley Ramirez, who was more than ticked about getting his cute little dreds cut. They also banned any jewelry (which Hanley also likes to wear.)
Think this won’t take a toll? Hanley is not doing very well this training camp, and has not been …read more

Confessions of a She-Fan

Do the Yankees hold a grudge? They might, according to novelist Jane Heller. She wrote the book Confessions of a She-Fan which talks about how her and her hubby watched the ” transformation of the 2007 squad from the doldrums to a wild-card playoff berth.”

In other words, she fell out of love with her team, got mad at it for a while, and then fell back in love with it. Fair weather fan, perhaps? The Yankees seemed to think so. When she wanted to run an for the book in the Yankees Opening Day program, …read more

A-Rod Poses With Himself

You’d think Alex Rodriguez would be lying low right now. After all, he’s recovering from hip surgery, and he’s got that nasty steroid thing about ready to wreck his reputation. But A-Rod wouldn’t be A-Rod if he was lying low! Instead, he’s posing for a groovy photo shoot for Details magazine.
Check out the photos here. Doesn’t the one where he’s face to face with the mirror look like he’s going, “You talking to me?”
Can’t you just see these photos up in the Yankees locker room?

Yahoo Adds Baseball Shortcuts

As baseball season is heating up, Yahoo decided to make the life of the stat-buffs among us a tid-bit easier with their new Baseball Shortcuts. The original post calls this feature “Sports Shortcuts” but I could not locate any other sport besides baseball which triggered these shortcuts.
Here’s what you get when searching for Barry Bonds:
