Since I’m still waiting on some kickass games to come out, I figured why not go play a “casual game” and forget all of my worries for a few minutes.
After thirty minutes, I finally remembered why it’s not a good idea for me to play casual games – I have an addictive personality and I don’t like to lose. Both traits lead me to play WAY TOO MUCH of these damn games and when I finally look up, I’ve wasted half a day popping stupid balloons.

Hi. I’m Amy and I’m taking over Gamer Lite. I figured I’d give you my take on casual gaming. While I LOVE my PC and PS3 games, casual gaming holds a special place in my heart. I write for several other sites, including SimsGamer.com, and when I’m not writing I’m usually playing some type of game.

25M Units of Bejeweled Sold!
PopCap’s flagship franchise, Bejeweled, has sold 25 million units since 2008. This means that: it 1 unit sold for every 10 seconds that equates to 6 billion hours in gameplay and sums up to $300 million in consumer spending. The success in sales mostly contributes to its numerous distribution channels and its availability in a variety of formats including web, PCs and Macs, mobiles, consoles, PDAs, Blackberrys, iPods and iPhone.
Term “Casual” Too Broad, Says PopCap Exec
Vice president of videogame platforms at PopCap Games, Greg Canessa, finds that the term “casual” can have too many meanings, according to an interview with Edge-Online. Escapist Magazine reported that the exec said that “casual” may refer to a genre, a style of gameplay or a gamer’s attitude toward a particular game. It might have been appropriate in the past, before casual games became mainstream and prior to the “Bejeweled” phenomenon, he expressed.
