My friend Mike over in Beijing, who\’s an Australian and who writes the Olympic blog 08:08:08, posted a list this morning of his picks for the hottest women in the Olympics. Of course, his list has some obvious flaws. For one thing, he included a snowboarder (that\’s the Winter Olympics, Mike) and Natalie Gublis (a golfer; golf\’s not yet an Olympic sport).

Lagat Leads US Qualifiers in Men’s 1500m

Kenyan-born, Bernard Lagat easily won the men’s 1500m event at the US Olympic Track and Field Qualifying Meet in Eugene, Oregon last night. The 33-year-old competed in the 2000 and 2004 Games representing Kenya. He became a US citizen in 2004.
The 1500 is a story of immigrants. Second place finisher, Leonel Manzano was born in Mexico and moved with his family to Texas when he was four. He became a US citizen in 2004.

Bernard Lagat Leads American 5000m Qualifiers

Former Olympian, Bernard Lagat easily won the Men’s 5000m event last night at the US Track and Field Qualifying Meet in Eugene, Oregon to earn himself a third trip to the Olympics. Lagat was born in Kenya, but became an American citizen in 2004. He is the reigning world champion in this event and won the Bronze Medal in Sydney and the Silver Medal in Athens. Is it time for a Gold?
