I love the post idea that Becky over at My Organized Biz had on yesterday about “uncluttering your mind.” This is sage advice for those of us who use mental muscles EVERY day to generate business and generate an income. Relaxing is KEY to being productive and having good, creative ideas.
Uncluttering…Yeah, that’s where I am and what I’m doing today. Uncluttering. It’s been long overdue for one of these uncluttering days and I do intend to enjoy it. I have to.

I have to. The stress has caught up with me. I know, I know, I talked about saving, cost-cutting, etc. this morning, but hear me on this one. I’ve saved up for a long time to be able to enjoy this today, so there’s no skin off of my teeth (or whatever that means). Trust me, when you take the time to “unclutter”, you feel better and you get WAY more done.

Like I am now. See you guys in a couple of days.

CANON-BALLLLLL!!!

Over at my women’s health blog, Lively Women, I just announced a fun and VERY easy contest. The prize is a $50 gift card to Target, and all you have to do is leave a comment on the announcement post with 5 things you could do to improve your health this year.

Now, how is this related to women and business? Well, if you want to be successful in your career, whether you’re self-employed, a business owner, or working for someone else, you have to be healthy. That means getting enough sleep, eating right, exercising regularly, taking steps to avoid getting sick, and visiting the doctor when you’re ill. It also means taking sick days when you need them.

Especially in the last few years, people have been more career driven and less concerned about their personal health. It’s time to find a balance! What changes could you make? Leave a comment at Lively Women and be automatically entered to win.

Important: comments made here for the contest DO NOT COUNT. They have to be made at the Lively Women post.

I know, I know. I’m sure it’s a foreign word to you too. But, it is very important that we take the time to rejuvenate ourselves. Having been a home-based freelancer for over 10 years, I have had to learn my share of tips and strategies to pull myself away from my desk at a decent hour, shut the computer off (not in snooze or standby mode) and WALK AWAY FROM THE OFFICE. This has to be a conscious and disciplined effort to do. I wrote a few tips here about some things that you can try to use to get more R&R into your business life. Whatever business you’re in, whatever times of day that you work, whereever you work and whatever you do, remember the main thing that’s going to keep those creative juices flowing and spark the energy you need to make it through each day, you must get proper rest.

What do you do to relax?

But if you’re working in an office during the fall and winter months, all is not lost. Here are some easy ways to cut down on your risk of picking up your coworkers’ ickies:

Wash your hands after touching doorknobs, copiers, elevator buttons, and phones. Anything that lots of people are touching is chockablock with other people’s germs. If you can’t wash your hands, use a liquid hand sanitizer such as Purell — but make sure it has the right alcohol concentration or you’re wasting your time.

Don’t touch your face, including rubbing your nose or eyes. Your mucous membranes are little sponges that suck in germs, so the less you touch these areas, the less likely you are to introduce the flu virus.

Try not to shake hands if you can avoid it. Most people understand, especially if you mention that cough you’ve had lately — “I wouldn’t want to pass anything around!”

Stay away from sick people in the office and on your way to work. Change seats at the meeting or on the subway. Switch to a different carpool. Do what you need to do.

Stay away from people with sick kids. Enough said.

Wipe down your phone, mouse, desk surface, and keyboard regularly to keep them clean.

Use your own pen, not someone else’s.

Stay hydrated.

Take a multivitamin, or at least a vitamin C supplement. What can it hurt?

However, answering that question does qualify it as the million dollar question because success requires so much from us that it can put us under stress. What I have found out in this journey to success is that being able to prioritize, focus and discipline myself does count. Success does not come easy nor does it come without a price.

There are some of us here at b5media who have some suggestions and viewpoints that we put to use while ladder climbing. I’ll share them with you:
