Two of the biggest conferences for New Media wonks and independent content producers yesterday announced a merger. The BlogWorld Expo and the New Media Expo are merging into one “mega new media event.”
I was at Blog World Expo this year, and while I enjoyed every minute of the conference, partly because my people were there, it didn’t blow my mind (sorry Rick. You rock….. 08’s BWE was more about newbies than it was me), I was quite honestly looking for something more….higher level.
And now, with the merger of BWE and New Media Expo, this is not only going to be …read more
The Mis-Use of Twitter Direct Messages

This has been bugging me for some time now, but I think in order to explain my annoyance, I have to give you some back story.
At BlogWorld Expo, I was hanging out with people I’d met at SxSW and knew from Twitter. A couple of them hassled me (gently) over my following to followers ratio. You see, I’d gotten fed up with the fact that I was missing many of the people I really wanted to know about on Twitter, and so ruthlessly slashed and burned. And then the morning came.
I woke up later that I had planned/wanted.
We got to the airport with tons of time to spare, only for me to discover that I had left my passport – you know, the one thing that I absolutely had to make sure that I had - at home.
Back in the car, and back to the apartment. Get passport, get back in …read more

That’s it. August is over and taking with it, my own official view of summer and lazy days. I’ve been out of high school since 1993 and yet, no matter what, September always feels like the new year to me.
Already, there’s a whole host of conferences coming up, just in the next few weeks. Blog World Expo, which is quickly becoming the geek fall break. Geek back to school? Either way, it’s becoming the Fall version of SxSW.
Running almost on top of BWE, which is kinda silly I think, is Web 2.0 in New York City. I’d …read more
