I am especially thankful to Gina Trapani, the blog’s founding editor, for introducing me to Cygwin and the todo.sh. She used to make frequent posts but has been writing only a weekly column on the blog these days. She released a book, Upgrade Your Life: The Lifehacker Guide to Working Smarter, Faster, Better, which consists of all the best hacks from Lifehacker.com’s archives, and her personal manifesto on working more efficiently in the digital age. Happy Birthday Lifehacker

When a blogger posts a blog through Windows Live Writer, it also maintains a copy of the post on the local machine. For regular bloggers, that adds up to a lot of space with time. A “proper delete” through the Open –> Delete makes it clear that deleting a post is equivalent to deleting it from the local machine as well as from the blog.

Some might like the backup, but we won’t mind an option to delete posts from the machine alone, do we? I am currently using a dirty trick to get it done.

All the posts you are working on using Windows Live Writer are stored as .WPOST files in the folder “My Documents\My Weblog Posts” under two sub-folders “Drafts” and “Recent Posts”. Delete the posts you want from them.

There is also a “cache.xml” file in the “Recent Posts” folder. This is the file responsible for keeping posts on the local machine in sync with those on your blogs. It is better left alone.

Please let me know if there is a cleaner way to do this. I am still a beginner user of Windows Live Writer.

Tech Channel Roundup From Wishes to X-rays

As someone with more hands-on experience with software than hardware, you may find me concentrating more on software, security, and general troubleshooting. That, however, doesn’t mean I won’t cover hardware at all.

I encourage you all to post any doubts you might have and I will try my best to get you an answer. I am not an expert in any of these, but there is a good chance I might know them. Even if I don’t, I have the interest and patience to dig deeper for an answer. We will see what can be done.

The regular readers may have gotten used to Kiven’s and later Jesse’s style. It will take a while for you all to get used to my style, and for me to get a grasp of their content in the archives. While I promise to try my best, you might find some posts overlapping with the older ones. Pardon such slips, but please point them out to me.
