Seth Curry Transfer To Duke

Well, it’s looks as though we know where one of the Curry brothers is going to end up after this basketball season.
ESPN reported yesterday that Seth Curry’s father, former NBA great Dell Curry,  made it known Sunday night after a visit to Durham earlier in the day that Seth had been offered a scholarship by the Duke Blue Devils and accepted. Curry averaged 20.2 points a game for the Flames this past season, making a name for himself in his own right outside of the shadow of his brother, Stephen.
Because of the transfer rule in college basketball, Seth will sit …read more

North Carolina vs. Duke Part One

Can’t you just feel the excitement in the air?
In just over three hours the annual biggest game of the year part one gets underway – North Carolina at Duke baby!
This game is so big that it’s starting at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. That means assuming we make it through the snarling traffic that are Southern California freeways, we’ll be home in time to watch the start of the game.
Good luck with that one.
So who do ya like?
The No. 3 Tar Heels (21-2, 7-2), which hold an overall series record of 128-97? This record includes four straight wins at Duke …read more

A word on UNC and Duke

UNC- The preseason favorite better not get too big for their britches. Roy Williams better have his guys, every one of them, ready to go no matter who the opponent. UNC will learn quickly that there’s a fat million dollar check safety pinned to their collective jerseys. Tar Heelites must hope that Hansbrough isn’t the only player who gets the memo. The Messiah can only do so much.
Key Player- Wayne Ellington. Sure, he can stroke it from just about any area code, but he is lacking elsewhere. You know that when Tyler Hansbrough …read more

Dickie V BABY!

Hate him or love him, Dickie V brings an excitement and passion to college basketball, and really sports in general, that is completely unmatched, and for the most part, refreshing, his ACC man-love notwithstanding.

Yesterday Dickie V. unveiled his pre-season top 40 teams for the upcoming college hoops campaign.
1. North Carolina. With Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and Danny Green all returning, the Tar Heels are the clear-cut preseason numero uno.
2. Louisville. Rick Pitino’s squad is a legitimate Final Four contender. The addition of Samardo Samuels up front is a big plus.
3. Connecticut. Hasheem Thabeet will be …read more

NCAA tourney Day 3 – early thoughts (UPDATED)…

Saturday afternoon here at Tournament Central…here are some thoughts as we go throughout the day.
- Duke is overrated. Period. End of story. You simply cannot afford to rely on 3s as much as Duke does. When they are going in, they are fine. But when they struggle from behind the arc, they are in big-time trouble. Right now against West Virginia, Duke is 2 for 18 from 3 point range. West Virginia is outscrapping, outhustling, and outplaying Duke. The reliance on the 3 is another reason why I’m leery about Tennessee. They have a little better inside presence than Duke, …read more

UNC/Duke game overshadowed by tragedy

This weekend’s matchup between top ranked North Carolina and #5 Duke has all the makings to be one of the best college basketball games of the year.
Unfortunately, a shadow will hang over the game, as North Carolina’s studentbody president, Eve Carson , was shot to death on Wednesday.
Hopefully, the North Carolina players can put this tragedy behind them and keep their heads in the game.
Here is a follow-up report that ESPN put together about how both the UNC and Duke campuses were affected by the shooting.

Games to watch this week – March 5th

We are now officially in March, which means that the Madness is just around the corner. Teams that are hoping to get into the NCAA tournament cannot afford any more slip-ups, while some teams on the bubble are hoping to solidify their case before the tournament committee.
Here are some great games to check out this week:
Tonight: #4 Tennessee at Florida – many analysts believe the two-time defending champion Gators are on the NCAA tournament bubble. A win over the Vols would all but guarantee Florida a spot in the Big Dance.
Thursday March 6th: #7 Stanford at #2 UCLA – …read more

12/20 Duke vs. Pittsburgh – as it happens

(Channeling Brent Musburger)…
We are coming to you LIVE from Madison Square Garden as the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Duke Blue Devils get set for what should be a fantastic contest.
Today’s announcers are Dan Shulman and Jay Bilas. Rock solid announcing crew.
And here we go…

Duke comes out in a straight man to man. It will be interesting to see if the Duke frontcourt is athletic enough to keep up with the Panthers.
Both teams come out a little shaky – a couple of turnovers and offensive fouls early on.
Duke has now switched to a zone defense and forces a quick turnover. …read more
