Jill Kintner on Training for the Olympics

Jill Kintner will be the first US woman to compete in Olympic BMX, which is debuting as an Olympic sport at the Beijing games. Here she talks a little about that and about training for the big event.

BMX (bicycle motorcross) will make its Olympic debut at the Beijing Games. BMX riders use bikes with 20″ wheels and navigate a dirt course filled with bumps and turns. There will be a women’s and a men’s competition.
The United States BMX team includes Jill Kintner; three-time world champion, Kyle Bennett; Mike Day (pictured at left above); and Donny Robinson.

Kyle Bennett and BMX Make the Olympics

BMX–bicycle motorcross–is making its debut at the Olympic Games in Beijing and the United States is sending one of its best to compete. Kyle Bennett clinched his place on the Olympic team by making the finals in the World Cup competition in Denmark this past Saturday. The 28-year-old Texas native is a 3-time UCI (Union Cycliste International) World Cup title holder.
The United States will be sending a three-man BMX team to Beijing. The other two will be selected at the June 14 qualifying event.

Introducing a new discipline — BMX!

The Olympic Programme was finalised and I found out that there will be new events this coming 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. One of them will be the new discipline, BMX.
It’ll probably fall under cycling? Don’t quote me on that because I don’t have any idea if I’m right. Heh.
It’s also known as Bicycle Motocross. I found out that news of this new discipline’s addition to the programme were in the works since 2003. I guess now that everything’s finalised, it’s really safe to say that it is included.
