Bob Sapp didn’t manage to get a single offensive move off against former WWE wrestler Bobby Lashley at last night’s “Ultimate Chaos” event in Mississippi. Repeating a similar strategy from earlier fights, Lashley immediately shot in and took Sapp down. For the next three minutes Lashley attempted to ground and pound his opponent out, finally getting a tap at 3:17 of the first round.

Bobby Lashley - Image: Zuma Press

Bob Sapp came into this fight at a relatively svelte 322 pounds – a big drop from his typical 375 pounds. Here I was hoping that this meant he was finally starting to take his training seriously but the story he told before the fight revolved around the embarrassment of sitting on a toilet and breaking it rather than any desire to seriously compete in mixed martial arts.

As for Bobby Lashley, Sapp is a nice recognizable name on his record … much better than the second biggest name, Jason Guida. Guida is the older brother of UFC fighter Clay Guida and is best known for his appearance on the Ultimate Fighter where he cramped up trying to cut weight and exposed his junk to the world while rolling around the floor in agony.

Speaking of TUF, earlier this year Lashley was considering breaking into the UFC via TUF but his management has decided to take it slow and let Lashley develop – a good idea in my opinion considering Lashley is still looking pretty one dimensional at the moment. I don’t expect him to be finishing guys with flying elbows off the top rope or anything, but thus far we haven’t seen much from the young prospect past some okay wrestling and not so okay ground and pound. Still, with his record standing at 4-0, he’s gotten off to a good start.

In other Ultimate Chaos results, Gilbert Yvel knocked Pedro Rizzo out in brutal fashion 2:10 into the first round, Chris Horodecki defeated William Sriyapai via rear naked choke at 4:02 of round 1, and Affliction promoter Tom “T-Shirt Guy” Atencio came back from some serious blows in the first round of his fight against Randy Hedderick to win in the second. Well, in between the second and third … Atencio beat on Hedderick in the second that the fighter refused to answer the third round bell. Din Thomas was also originally supposed to fight on the card, but missed weight by half a pound and before he realized it wasn’t okay had already started to rehydrate himself. Oops.

Either Bobby Lashley is very stupid or very true to himself and the sport of MMA. I would say it’s the latter…and not just because this guy could crush me like a beer can. He recently spoke to ESPN’s MMA Live and talked about the possibilities of getting to the UFC via The UltimateFighter 10 tryouts, which start on Monday.

Image: Newscom

He also stated that although he would love to be in the UFC, if presented with an offer, he would likely turn it down. Perhaps he’s being true to himself in the sense that he knows that he has only had two professional fights and that he hasn’t really faced any UFC caliber fighters yet. I don’t think many people take him seriously yet due to the previous facts about his professional fights and also the fact that he is a former WWE wrestler. He’s got size and speed that most heavyweights don’t have and with more training he could surely become an extremely dangerous opponent in the octagon. I wouldn’t write him off just yet as he obviously takes his training just as serious as any other MMA fighter and chooses to present himself as a professional.

Lashley trains with American Top Team out of Florida, which is also home to well known fighters such as Thiago Alves, Mike Brown and Thiago Silva, just to name a few. Check out the ESPN video can be viewed below.

Guida came close to winning in the third with a guillotine, but Lashley held out. Guida took the fight after Lashley’s original opponent, Ken Shamrock was suspended after failing his drug test after his last fight.

Jason Guida, brother of Clay Guida of UFC fame took the opportunity with less than a weeks notice. Guida also talked an enormous amount of trash before the fight and Lashley admitted that he let it get to him and threw off his game. Lashley now has a professional record of 2-0 and is just at the beginning of his career and I believe he could go far. As for Jason Guida, his record now stands at 17-20. After seeing Guida get disqualified from the last season of The Ultimate Fighter and seeing his record, it kind of makes you wonder how seriously he takes his training. You can view a video of the fight at Megavideo.com.

Wow. This should be interesting. Ken Shamrock is beyond his prime and Bobby Lashley is just starting his career in MMA. This is like the generic super-fight or Lesnar Vs. Couture. Ken Shamrock is a strong veteran but not in the same way that Randy Couture. Bobby Lashley, I honestly haven’t seen him fight for more than 47 seconds, but I can imagine that he’s pretty fast and will be looking to send Shamrock out with his hang hanging low. Lashley has a strong wrestling (non-WWE) background and if he can elude Shamrocks strikes and/or submissions he may have a chance.

According to MMA Junkie and Blood Elbow, this fight is going to take place at March Badness, a Hybrid Boxing/MMA event. It is set for action on March 21st at Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida and is being promoted by Squared Ring Promotions, owned by Roy Jones Jr.

Other fights on the card are Seth Petruzelli Vs. Doug Marshall. If Seth doesn’t get lucky in the first round like he did with Kimbo Slice, he’ll have his hands full with the hard hitting “Rhino”.

One Bloody Elbow reader commented:

This is a tough one to pick. Bobby Lashley was the ECW champ a couple times as well as the United States champ. On the other hand, Ken Shamrock did win the King of the Ring tournament and the Intercontinental title. So hard to pick…

I got quite the laugh out of that. Rumor has it that they may try to push this for PPV.

Bobby Lashley beat Josh Franklin in 41 seconds at his MMA debut fight. It was a TKO win because Franklin suffered a cut by the hands of Lashley that was deemed to sever to continue. SO Lashley has his first win. The video below isn’t the best quality of the MFA: There Will BE Blood Event, but it gives you a general idea of how the fight went on December 13th.

He signed with the American Fight League right before they went in to "Hiatus" but was loaned out for his debut MMA fight to Mixed Fight Alliance for the "There Will Be Blood" event.

Lashley fought another MMA rookie, Josh Franklin. Lashley shot in quickly in the first round and began a vicious ground and pound cutting Franklin. The ref stopped the fight and doctors checked the would and deemed it to serious to allow him to continue. Lashley won his debut by TKO in 41 seconds.

So what’s next for Lashley? MMAJunkie has said that sources say that he wants to make his way to fight fellow WWE alumni, Brock Lesnar some time soon. Could you imagine seeing these two enter the octagon and at first lock up all Pro-wrestling style. That would be a trip.

With the right training both Lesnar and Lashley could go far in the world of MMA as heavyweights. They go from putting on a show while taking the chance of getting hurt with choreographed fights to the real deal. Ken Shamrock did just the opposite and he still somehow gets respect, right?
