ECW Shows Improvement

Mr. McMahon said coming into last nights episode that he was going to “Punish” the ECW orginals. Their punishment? Some of them would be in matches on the show but the catch was that they couldn’t interfere in the matches or they would be fired.

First watch of the night is Tommy Dreamer against Kevin Thorn. Tommy Dreamer seemed to have Thorn down for the 3 count but special referee Matt Striker was too injured to make the count. Thorn countered putting Dreamer down and Striker “stuggled” with the 3 count to give Thorn the win.

Next up was Balls Mahoney fresh off his beat down on Raw to Umaga against Marcus Cor Von. “The Alpha Male” Cor Von easily got the win with Striker as the special timekeeper for the match.  During the “Extreme Expose” Striker interupted to announce another New vs. Old match between RVD and Elijah Burker with Kevin Thorn as time keeper and Cor Von as commentator.

Needless to say some deceptive tactics were used and the originals found themselves on the short end of the stick as Burke pinned Van Dam. After the match the new breed went into the ring attacking RVD before the originals came to the ring to defend their member seemingly ending the show on a high note despite all of the losses.

In a non-feud related match Bobby Lashley faced off with Hardcore Holly in a non-title match. Lashley picked up the win with a powerslam. After the win Snitsky appeared to attack the Extreme champion seemingly throwing his name into the feud that has emerged between Lashley and Hardcore Holly.

ECW Recap – February 6th, 2007

Tonights Raw will also feature Ric Flair taking on Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy. With a win Flair will get a title shot at Wrestlemania. I just don’t see Flair fitting in with this storyline but we will just have to wait and see what storyline WWE is going with here. Tonight we should also see just what WWE is going to do with the Vince McMahon/Donald Trump storyline after reports are saying that it is no longer being considered for Wrestlemania.

Depending on who Undertaker ultimately chooses we could see another Wrestlemania match formed tonight, likely between John Cena and Shawn Michaels. It might not be finalized with an official announcement but I wouldn’t be surprised to see their recent feud continue tonight.

And last but least, Mickie James will be facing Melina defending her WWE Women’s Title.

Monday Night Raw Preview – February 5th

Needless to say, Test lost again and Lashley retained. The match was same old same old but it got mildly interesting when Undertaker showed up but who really thinks he is going to challenge Lashley for the ECW title. Not me.

McMahon showed up to basically make fun of the old ECW and declare Elijah Burke as the future of the promo (I sure hope not). The ECW originals beat him down thank goodness.

In the other matches of the night Matt Striker topped CM Punk and Hardcore Holly beat Rob Van Dam.

Third Time is Not the Charm for Test, ECW

Mr. McMahon will make his first appearance on the “New Breed” tonight in a apparent continuation of Fan Appreciation Night from last night’s Raw. Not sure what he will bring to ECW but I sure hope it’s some excitement.

Kelly Kelly is expected to “perform” again but other than the main event to match announcements have been made yet.

ECW Preview

Now WWE has stated on their website that the entire shift was because Test demanded the match but I have to expect there is more behind this than meets the eye. Two things seem out of place with the newly announced match.

First, why would WWE have the same exact match tonight as the one that will be going down at Royal Rumble. Just seems like an awkward move that takes away from any anticipation of this weekends match. Second the prior match provided the perfect scenario for Test to get involved so I am leaning towards there being something more behind this than a simple change but we will just have to wait and see.

No more “official” matches have been announced but I am guessing the Kelly Kelly and CM Punk/Matt Striked storyline may continue as will the Marquis Cor Von storyline as the new wrestler.

ECW Main Event Changed

The no holds bar triple threat match was not all it was made out to be. Maybe it was just me but I was really not a fan of the match. I thought there was quite a bit of potential for ECW with this match but I was sadly mistaken. The match actually me lose interest last night while the rest of the matches kept me entertained.

I think the one thing the ECW is going to need is a new champion to save its brand.
The fans really responded well when RVD was champion largely because he was a known and established wrestler. Lashley on the other hand hasn’t been around too long and was switched to the brand and immediately won the championship. The next time the title changes hands RVD or CM Punk need to win it so the brand can find its identity once again.

In other matches of the night Kelly Kelly returned to do Kelly’s Expose only to be interrupted by Matt Striker. CM Punk then entered to do battle with Striker and came out on top after Kelly distracted Striker with her…looks. I am glad to see they are keeping the Kelly Kelly/CM Punk storyline alive since she actually seems to fit in there.

ECW introduced “The Alpha Male” Marquis Cor Van to wrestling fans with his win over ECW is calling “a local.” In the other match of the night Elijah Burke pinned Sandman by using his jeans to pick up his win over the long time ECW wrestler and fan favorite.

Test Exacts Revenge After Lashley Retains

Also tonight Kelly Kelly will make her first appearance since her former “boyfriend” Mike Knox. ECW apparently ended the Mike Knox/Kelly Kelly storyline back in December and hasn’t been on the show for several weeks. ECW is hinting that she may be back for another Kelly’s Expose which hasn’t been on for a few months. It will be interesting to keep an eye on what they decide to do with Kelly Kelly.

Expect to see something involving CM Punk and Hardcore Holly since their rivalry has been ongoing for quite a while. Also, Tommy Dreamer is available to feud with another wrestler after The Great Khali made his move to Raw. I would expect it may be a little bit before he is involved in another big feud but anything is possible.

Test Added To Title Mix; Triple Threat Match Tonight

Well I am pretty confident that with Khali’s move to RAW his feud with Dreamer is over. Last night was sort of the culmination of the rivalry if you want to call it that. It was an extreme rules match but Khali still won which I’m pretty sure he could have done without weapons.

One of the better matches in my opinion on the night was the CM Punk/Hardcore Holly fight which ended when Holly landed the Alabama Slam. punk tried for some pins and submissions throughout but none of them really took shape. The loss was Punk’s first since joining ECW.

Elijah Burke spoke during a break in the action to which the Sandman appeared to show his displeasure for the new extremist with his Singapore cane.

The only information on next weeks episode as of now is that Kelly Kelly will be back which I have absolutely no problem with.

Test Interferes in ECW Main Event

In the past when only 2 shows were competing the teams were made up of 15 from RAW and 15 from Smackdown! but with the integration of ECW into the action it has not yet been revealed how many wrestlers from each show will be participating. I would guess there will be fewer ECW wrestlers than from other brands because there simply are not as many big names in the newest brand extension.

Also, the winner of the ‘Rumble’ typically gets a shot at a championship of their choice and it is unknown whether the ECW Championship will also be on the line. I would suspect to see Bobby Lashley, RVD, and CM Punk take part in the action as well as some other extremists.
