2009 Midseason Undefeated and Winless

We’re about at the mid-season point for college football. I always think it’s interesting to see which teams have gone undefeated so far and which teams have yet to win a game. By this time, most teams have had at least ONE tough opponent and at least ONE game where they had a chance to win. Here’s how the lists look this year:
Undefeated:

Alabama
Boise State
Cincinnati
Florida
Iowa
Kansas
South Florida
TCU
Texas

Winless

Ball State
Eastern Michigan
Florida Atlantic
Miami (OH)
New Mexico
Rice
Western Kentucky

Really, I think the big surprises here are that there are no major surprises. Few people would have put Iowa on the undefeated list when predicting records at this point …read more

College Football Week Three 2009 in Review

No longer do we have a top ten with perfected records. This week, Oklahoma bust into the number 10 spot with a blemished season. The rest of the AP top 10 are still unmarred after week three:

Florida
Texas
Alabama
Mississippi
Penn State
California
LSU
Boise State
Miami
Oklahoma

What’s significant to note is who is not there anymore. And really, that boils down to my favorite team to bash, USC.
Sorry, USC fans. This was supposed to be an easy week for you. The Trojans took on Washington, and after a week at Ohio State’s horseshoe, everyone thought that this would be a relaxing game. Only Matt Berkley couldn’t start, so …read more

Penalties Too Harsh for LeGarrette Blount?

Everyone’s still talking about about LeGarrette Blount’s hot head after the Oregon – Boise State game on Thursday night. As one of the first games of the season, I personally think that it’s a shame that people will remember it for the punch and not for the actual game. Oregon has a lot to learn in the next week, and little of it has to do with tempers. Most of it has to do with their offense not completely sucking.
So, now the penalties have been announced, and I’m a little shocked. We all expected Blount to sit out next week, …read more

College Football Week One 2009 Preview

Ah, my life is complete once again. College football, how I’ve missed you. Sure, we have the draft in the spring, but it just isn’t even to satiate my yearning for the clash of helmets on the field.
Week One is usually not very exciting, unfortunately. My favorite team, Penn State, plays Akron, so although this game means they’ll likely be able to keep a high rank, it won’t actually be that fun to watch. Actually, I don’t even think the game is being televised… Maybe I’m selling Akron short. *shrug*
In any case, despite all of the easy non-conference games we’re …read more

BCS! BCS! BCS! BRENNAN FOR HEISMAN!

BCS! BCS! BCS! BRENNAN FOR HEISMAN!

BCS! BCS! BCS!
That’s what the crowd chanted last night after Hawaii’s amazing win over Boise State, the WAC Champions for the past six years. The poor WAC doesn’t have a bowl, so even though Hawaii is now the official WAC championship team, they aren’t guaranteed a berth.
Unless, of course, they finish in the top 12. Then, Hawaii is given the spot in the Sugar Bowl!
And come on. They deserve it. Hawaii went into this game at #14, but Boise State was ranked too, so their win should help boost the ‘Bows up a few notches. I’m cheering for them. Week …read more
