It seems everyone nowadays wants to be an all-rounder. Either that or specialist batsmen are gradually getting edged out of the game. No sooner had Jason Gillespie scored an incredible test double hundred against Bangladesh, and New Zealand’s James Franklin has done a similar thing. It’s not a double ton, but when you consider that his opposition are South Africa, a much more competent team than the Bangladeshi’s, it makes the two innings comparable. Jones will play

Simon Jones will play his first game of cricket since injury in December for Glamorgan on the opening day of the County Championship. Glamorgan play an opening match aginst Cardiff University. Jones, who was recently mentioned in the top 5 bowlers by Wisden, will be anxious to perform well and confirm his place in the England side for the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka, starting May 11th. The news will be of great relief to the England camp, who have been consistently trouble by injury in recent times.

Award for English cricketers

England fans have known it for 12 months, but it has been made official – Andrew Freddie Flintoff is the leading cricketer in the world . Wisden – the cricket almanack and cricket journal worth reading – have recognised the mighty efforts of Freddie in the last year and deservedly appointed him the best in the world. The award is only a couple of years old, with Australians Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting the recipients, but in amongst everything that Flintoff has done, it is no surprise to see him receive the accolade.
