New Sponsor for the Las Vegas Bowl

Las Vegas Bowl executive Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced today that Maaco, Inc. is going to be sponsoring the game for at least the next three years. The new date will be December 22.
ESPN owns the Las Vegas Bowl, which was played last year between Arizona and BYU. It will continue to be held between a Mountain West conference team and a Pac-10 conference team, as it has been in the past. Last year, the game was held on December 20 and sponsored by Pioneer Electronics. More than 40,000 fans attended to see the showdown, which Arizona won 31-21.

What is Pétanque?

Pétanque is a form of the game Boules, which is quite popular in France. According to Wikipedia, it’s a form of boules where the goal is to throw metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (jack). The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel, but can also be played on grass or other surfaces.

Bowls vs Curling

Ha. What do you know…
Bowls is like Curling and vice versa. Main difference, one is played on manicured grass and the other, on prepared ice. Plus! It is related to Bocce, which is normally played on dirt surfaces.
Eh. Sorry, but Chess on ice? I’m thinking it’s a game of marbles in a grand proportion.
I wonder how they train for such events.
Gah. Curling is the official sport of Saskatchewan? What has the world come to? I think I should visit that country and have a look around.

Can anyone explain Bowls to me?

Call me stupid but I really don’t get the point of Lawn Bowling. I’m not talking about technicalities but rather just baffled by the reason why it became a world sport. Pffft.
I know it’s not being played in my country [uh, as far as I know anyway] but apparently is big in most member nations of the Commonwealth. But still..! Oh, nevermind.
I did try to pick up some information and even laboured in watching a game just to understand it but I give up.
