How Does Your Brand Communicate?

Have you ever checked to see how your brand communicates in different languages or countries? If you haven’t then I would suggest that you start researching to see how your brand fairs.
The reason I suggest this is because Gerber learned the hard way that it is better to research how your brand communicates in different countries or languages before preceding with marketing. In Africa, Gerber started selling their famed product with the head of a baby on it. What they learned is that in Africa, many businesses put pictures on the label to explain what is contained inside.

A good friend of mine is an avid recreational sports player in his community. He plays basketball, beach volleyball and ultimate. Apart from his competitive nature, what he’s most intense about is his refusal to call the sport “Frisbee.”
The game itself (with rules much like football) is called “ultimate” but the act of throwing a round, flat object is called “flying disc.”
So why is it that Frisbee is so much more universally known that “flying disc”?

Nine Brand Names in Oxford Dictionary

Many brand names have become common terms for an item.  Kleenex is a great example.  Often a person will say, “I need a Kleenex,” rather than using the generic word, tissue.  The person doesn’t necessarily need a Kleenex brand tissue.  Any brand will do, but the word Kleenex has become a common substitute for the generic word, tissue.
Nine brand names like this have made it into The Oxford Dictionary from Britain.  According to Socyberty, the following brand names (all of which are trademarked) are included in The Oxford Dictionary:
