‘08 Daytona Not Shy on Drama

Heading into the 50th running of NASCAR’s “Great American Race”, this year’s Daytona 500 has already proven to us beyond a shadow of a doubt that this track is not shy when it comes to both hype and the ability to produce storylines. The 2008 Sprint Cup season has been one of the most talked about seasons in professional sports history, and every bit of it has transcended itself to Daytona, which is set to kick off here in just a few short hours. As we gear up for the official kickoff of the most elite series in all of …read more

Nationwide Series Results: Daytona

In a potential prelude to tomorrow’s Sprint Cup Series’ running of the Daytona 500, Tony Stewart was able to find victory lane for Joe Gibbs Racing in a wild race at the Camping World 300 at Daytona International Raceway, giving Toyota its third NASCAR victory in the last two days. After Brad Keselowski brought out a late-race caution by spinning and collecting several other cars, including Steve Wallace, Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Jason Keller, and others, racing resumed with only six laps to go. The Gibbs cars of Stewart and Kyle Busch were able to outrun Dale Earnhardt Jr, Brian …read more

The Stewart – Busch Saga Rages On

My, how things can drastically change in a three-year period. The 2004 Daytona 500 saw the usual restrictor plate duo of Dale Earnhardt Jr and Tony Stewart battle amongst each other for the majority of the second half of the race as they pulled away to a rather sizeable lead from the rest of the pack … except for the lapped car of Kurt Busch, then running in the no. 97 Sharpie Ford owned by Jack Roush. If you recall that race as I do, then you’ll be quick to remember that Busch had all of three options available to …read more

Amp’ed Up for 2008? Check this out!

It’s what absolutely everyone has been talking about since the halfway point in 2007 … Dale Earnhardt Jr’s leaving DEI; Dale Jr’s going to Hendrick; Junior and Budweiser are parting ways, and now he’s gonna drive for Mountain Dew Amp. Well, Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout certainly didn’t quiet anyone down a bit, and over at www.ronripple.com (also listed as one of my “A+ Blogs”), they’re taking full advantage as they’re willing to give away an entire case of the Amp product in the simplest of contests.

Johnson Tops the Charts in Qualifying

After finishing the Budweiser Shootout with their cars in 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th place, Hendrick Motorsports flexed their muscle yet again at Sunday’s qualifying for the Daytona 500. Jimmie Johnson won the pole position with a qualifying effort of 48.109, and Hendrick’s three other cars all also qualified between 6th and 15th.
Hendrick’s road to dominating the Daytona Speedweeks has not gone unchallenged, though, as the Toyota teams continue to come up just shy of topping the charts. Michael Waltrip narrowly missed the pole award and will instead start this Sunday’s race on the outside of the front row after …read more

Junior Sets the Pace for ‘08

The 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season officially got underway with the drop of the green flag Saturday night for the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. Finally, after months of talking about whether or not Dale Earnhardt Jr would find success driving for Hendrick Motorsports. All the debate about if the Toyotas would be able to compete with the competition after adding Joe Gibbs Racing to the mix. And, all the doubts about the Car of Tomorrow being able to handle the monster speedway that is Daytona. Many question marks still linger, no doubt about it, but Saturday night’s Shootout …read more

Stage is Set for 2008 Budweiser Shootout

With the drop of the green flag on the 2008 NASCAR season just hours away, this year’s Budweiser Shootout is already grabbing headlines all over the racing world. After the first practice session many fans had already suspected that things could turn ugly in this one rather quickly with the way the drivers were complaining about the handling of the cars. The main gripe was focused around the fact that the car formerly known as the “Car of Tomorrow” was extremely loose raising alarms for several teams since this is the first time the COT is being run at Daytona.
