As the campaign winds down – both Barack Obama and John McCain (as well as other politicians) are making their last fundraising pitches. Over the course of the election, the two candidates have raised hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions.
Just this past weekend, Barack Obama’s campaign announced that they raised $150 million dollars – in September alone. It’s a mind boggling amount.

The Democrats seem to have set a goal for fundraising during the general election in light of Barack Obama’s impressive talent for generating donations — in June, Obama collected $52 million. The Democratic goal is a nice round number: $500 million.

Financial Profile Friday: Mitt Romney
When it comes to campaign finances, Mitt Romney is a very special duck. While he’s done some high quality fundraising, he’s partially financing his bid for president on his own, to the tune of $17 million. Of course that figure could be higher — the FEC hasn’t handed out reports on fourth-quarter financials yet, so information is still available only up to September, 2007.
