So now we know why Michael Phelps always has his mouth open.

He apparently smokes so much weed he can’t close it.

The whole scuttlebutt started when he was shown in a photo with a glass pipe. This was in one of the British tabloids. (They get all the good stuff.)

Phelps gave a dopey apology to all of us fans who have been wondering why he always has his mouth open by saying, “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment.”

You said it, buddy! Because despite that some “marketing experts” think this won’t affect his sponsorship deals, I tend to disagree. You can’t be a golden boy and smoke weed. For every doobie you light up, Phelps, you are also lighting your sponsorship bucks up as well.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think they can be the sharpest tools in the shed. They are in the middle of the rookie training program, being lectured on the dangers of drugs, alcohol, money and women, and they can’t even put down the blunt until the program is over?

Chris Broussard of ESPN states that according to a source, the two young players were also fined $20K each and will be suspended to start the season.

I don’t get it. If you are just getting ready to embark on a potential multi-million career, why risk it? It will be interesting to see the severity of the punishment. They have to get points off not just for smoking weed, but also for being so stupid about it.
