Cabrera Wins Three-Man Playoff at Masters

Tiger may have finished the 2009 Masters Tournament tied for sixth place, but there was plenty of drama on the final round at Augusta. Kenny Perry, who led starting the day, completed regulation play tied with Chad Campbell and Angel Cabrera, forcing a three-man, sudden-death playoff. It was the first ever three-man playoff in Masters history.
It was Cabrera who prevailed, making him (at #69) the lowest-ranked player to ever win at Augusta. He is also the first Argentine to ever win the Masters.

Yes, all of the stars–past and present–were there. Tiger, Gary Player, Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington. But, midway through the second round, it’s a 34-year-old journeyman that sits atop the leader board at -10. He’s Chad Campbell.
Here are a few facts about the man who started the first round of the 2009 Masters yesterday with three consecutive birdies.
* Campbell turned pro in 1996. He spent time on the NGA Hooters Tour and the Nationwide Tour before being promoted to the PGA Tour in 2001.
