Earlier today, I reported on a story involving UCLA’s coaches and their salaries. Both head football coach Rick Neuheisel and the school’s basketball coach have volunteered to reduce their salaries to help relieve the state and school budget. Like many major college football coaches, Neuheisel makes over a million, plus gets bonuses for doing well.
But there are many coaches who make even more. It’s no surprise that USC’s Pete Carrol tops the list, making a base salary of $4.4 million. Here’s the rest of the top ten:
Pete Carrol, USC, $4.4 million
Charlie Weis, Notre Dame, $4.2 million
Nick Saban, Alabama, $3.9 million

Urban Meyers: “I’m Not Going to ND”

Last December, Urban Meyers said that Notre Dame was his dream job. That may be so, but he wants to make it extremely clear that he doesn’t have one foot out the door. That’s pretty important, since all eyes or on the Irish this season and, if they don’t improve, it may very well be the final nail in coach Charlie Weis.
Says Meyers,
“I’m not going to Notre Dame. Ever. I’m going to be the coach at Florida for a long time, as long as they want me.”
He then noted to the journalists there that they should “print it.”
Is This Notre Dame’s Year?

Every year, Notre Dame’s schedule comes under scrutiny, since they’re an Independent. Their 2009 schedule looks like this:
9/5 – Nevada
9/12 – Michigan
9/19 – Michigan State
9/26 – Purdue
10/3 – Washington
10/17 – USC
10/24 – Boston College
10/31 – Washington State
11/7 – Navy
11/14 – Pittsburgh
11/21 – Connecticut
11/28 – Standford
Granted, this schedule isn’t terrible, but it isn’t a walk in the park either. In fact, I think it’s a pretty solid schedule with some easy teams and some not-so-easy teams. Of course, people are already saying that “this could be Notre Dame’s year.” That happens a lot every summer. It always seems like it’s going …read more

Charlie Weis, head coach of Notre Dame, may not be leaving the school, but according to reports this week, the though has crossed his mind. After stories on Wednesday said that Weis was considering leaving the school, where he’s gone 29-21, the coach stepped out to talk to the press about the discussions he had wth his family.
“Like anyone who has a situation that is uncertain, as any husband and father would do, you address it with your wife and you address it with your kids. And you talk about the what if. But does that mean that at any …read more
Changes Afoot at Notre Dame

With a record of 3 and 9 in 2007, who didn’t expect some changes at Notre Dame?
And no, I’m not talking about staff changes (although there are a few new hires that will certain strengthen the team). I’m talking about changes in the way Charlie Weis runs his program.
As head coach, Coach Weis has been calling offensive plays. I mean, he’s famous for his play-calling abilities, which helped to lead the New England Patriots to three Super Bowl wins. *Resists the urge to make fun of their loss this year* Traditionally, it is the offensive coaching staff that calls the …read more
