Coleman was wrong and was punished by Conference USA. He even went on to issue a public apology.
End of story, right?
Think again.
Coleman is black and Budinger is white, so you know where this is going.

There was a lot of discussion this week over the incident where University of Houston player Aubrey Coleman was ejected after he stepped on the face of University of Arizona player Chase Budinger in a game last week.

Coleman was wrong and was punished by Conference USA. He even went on to issue a public apology.

End of story, right?

Think again.

Coleman is black and Budinger is white, so you know where this is going.

There’s a story out today that says since the incident Coleman has been receiving “racially charged emails and calls.”

The FBI is also getting involved, but will not confirm or deny an investigation.

Of course Coleman isn’t taking this lightly telling Andy Katz at ESPN.com, “There’s been a lot of racial slurs. It’s crazy. I saved the e-mails. I haven’t been contacted, but I do know the police and the FBI were at the practices to make sure everything was safe.

“I’ve been very depressed on how the public and the media put this out, like I did it on purpose,” Coleman said. “I wish it didn’t happen. I’m not that type of person. Chase is a great player and I would never try to do that.”

Obviously Houston coach Tom Penders is quite upset that one of his players and his team is being targeted by a bunch of nuts.

“He [Coleman] attempted to step over Chase; at no time did he mean to hurt the kid,” Penders said. “It’s clear on the replay that he never touches his face, but his shoulder.”

Arizona and Budinger haven’t commented on the issue yet, but I would hope they are as upset as everyone at Houston is, and reassures everyone that the callers and emailers do not reflect them and the fine program at Arizona.

Weren’t we just celebrating the beginning of change in this country a week ago?

Oh well. You know what they say, the more things change….

But the news concerned a different Wildcat squad than the one previously mentioned.

Prediction #2

2) Arizona will struggle to remain one of the top teams in the Pac 10 and shockingly, will miss the Big Dance. I see this team suffering through another season in which productive bodies off the bench are nonexistent. Last year’s Zona squad made Kentucky look like a deep group.

The top 15 recruiting class doesn’t look as enticing on paper anymore, but will somehow need to play way over their heads to give the team the extra depth.

Italy bound Brandon Jennings would have catapulted this team to a top 10 status. He would have made Budinger, Wise and Hill much better players and instilled the needed guard-like leadership foundation that was left void by Bayless. Giving up more than 27% of your scoring (Bayless) and in return swallowing a stat line of nothingness, which you thought would be abundant and flashy, is an obstacle too massive to overcome.

Losing out on Emmanuel Negedu hurts too.

And consequently, Chase Budinger will not be a top 20 pick.

Almost a month ago—I’m not a professional analyst, yet—I wrote Should I stay or should I go? and proclaimed Jamont Gordon and Bill Walker, among others, would stay in school.

Well, they didn’t.

Walker’s decision wasn’t a big surprise, but Gordon’s was. But even more surprising was the college departures of George Hill and Luc Richard Mbah A Moute and the withdrawing of Ty Lawson, Chase Budinger and the nearly 24 year old Lester Hudson.

The league will have an official list out later on Tuesday.

Below is a list of the guys who were undecided going into Monday, per ESPN.

Staying In Draft
Player	School
Joe Alexander, Jr.	WVU

Ryan Anderson, So.	Cal
Mario Chalmers, Jr.	Kansas

Jamont Gordon, Jr.	Mississippi St.
Richard Hendrix, Jr.	Alabama

J.J. Hickson, Fr.	NC State
George Hill, Jr.	IUPUI

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Jr.	UCLA
Marreese Speights, So.	Florida

Bill Walker, RS Fr.	Kansas St.

Returning To School
Player	School
A.J. Abrams, Jr.	Texas

Josh Akognon, Jr.	Cal St.-Fullerton
Chase Budinger, So.	Arizona

Lee Cummard, Jr.	BYU
Robert Dozier, Jr.	Memphis

Wayne Ellington, So.	UNC
Danny Green, Jr.	UNC

Lester Hudson, Jr.	Tennessee-Martin
Ty Lawson, So.	UNC

Jeremy Pargo, Jr.	Gonzaga
Ronald Steele, RS Sr.	Alabama

Robert Vaden, Jr.	UAB

source

Lester Hudson, a guard from Tennessee-Martin, could not ask for any better of a draft stock than he has now, yet he still withdrew from the draft. He more than likely didn’t feel confident in the feedback he received from the teams, so his decision is probably a wise one, except for the fact that by this time next year he will be almost 25 years old. A bit old for a rookie point guard? 1st round pick… no. But 2nd round pick… yes. I would have liked to see him go. How much more can you prove by dominating Ohio Valley Conference competition again?

One of the smartest decisions was made by Gonzaga guard Jeremy Pargo. The player has a future in the league, but just didn’t fit well in this year’s draft. He needs to improve his ball handling and decision making skills to really reap the benefits of coming back to a very dangerous Gonzaga team. I see him being a mid to late 1st round pick next year.

I don’t believe Hill will be drafted, nor do I believe Moute will be drafted. Unless of course, both have verbal 2nd round guarantees. Could be the case, but things change. Don’t count on anything in the NBA, well, except for questionable refereeing.

Questions, comments and beefs are always appreciated.

And please take a second to vote on the poll question seen on the right hand side of the page regarding who will be the best 08/09 freshman.
