Early on in the 2009-10 NBA season, there’s a relatively surprising name rising in the MVP talks — Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Anthony is in great shape and his play early on has been spectacular. On Thursday, he helped the Nuggets rally past the Portland Trail Blazers to improve their record to 2-0.
Anthony finished the game with 41 points — 19 of which were scored in the fourth quarter. His big finish allowed the Nuggets to outscore the Blazers in the fourth 35-27 to win by a final score of 97-94. Anthony shot 11-of-21 from the field and …read more

Prior to the start of the 2009-10, let’s take a look at the best point guards in the NBA. While the league is filled with a lot of talent at the position, these point guards are the best of the best in the NBA.
5. Chauncey Billups, Denver Nuggets
When it comes to leadership and leading by example, Chauncey Billups might be the best point guard in the NBA. He knows how to win and uses his strength to dominate the action.
4. Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns
Although he’s getting older, Steve Nash is still a handful. He’s a deadly shooter who is one …read more

The Denver Nuggets recently lost Dahntay Jones to the Indiana Pacers and Linas Kleiza to a team in Europe. On Friday, they were able to keep one of their pieces — point guard Anthony Carter. Next year will be Carter’s fourth season with Denver.
Known for his defense, ability to pass the ball and his leadership, Carter played relatively well last year. In 78 games, he averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 assists in 22.9 minutes per game. He shot 43.3% from the field and 73.1% from the line.
In the playoffs, Carter played well against the Dallas Mavericks in the second round …read more

Chauncey Billups is a crafty veteran who knows all the tricks. If you don’t want to believe me, watch this Billups video of him bouncing the ball off of Kobe Bryant’s back from out of bounds and then laying it up.
Those two points by Billups proved to be key in the Denver Nuggets’ Game 2 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. In a tight fourth quarter battle, the Nuggets were able to eek out a 106-103 victory. The game was decided at the end when Derek Fisher of the Lakers missed a desperation three-pointer.
Billups finished the contest with 27 points, …read more

Denver’s Got My Vote

The Nuggets showed NBA nation last night something that hasn’t been seen from them in a long time.
DEFENSIVE INTENSITY.
Thing is, Denver’s been doing it much of the season. But they can score on you so quickly, it often gets overlooked.
Billups was at it, Dahntay Jones was at it—no surprise there. Nene and Kenyon Martin were throwing their chiseled bodies around like they were the Bad Boys. Martin, especially, is always going to get his worth when fouling, not a lot of And 1’s via a Martin foul. Carter, Smith and Andersen off the bench played like the spark plugs that they are. Birdman is becoming …read more

Entering Game 4, the New Orleans Hornets were hoping to tie their series against the Denver Nuggets at 2-2. That didn’t happen, to say the least. The Nuggets went into New Orleans and absolutely demolished the Hornets by 58 points, 121-63.
The 58-point margin of victory tied the largest in the history of the NBA. In 1956, the Lakers beat the Hawks 133-75.
The Nuggets finished with seven players in double-digits. Carmelo Anthony led the way with 26 points and seven rebounds, while Chauncey Billups chipped in 17 points and eight assists. Linas Kleiza, J.R. Smith, Chris Andersen and Nene also …read more
Why Did Carmelo Anthony Cut His Hair?
November 7, 2008 by Stephen Kersey
Why do you think Carmelo Anthony cut his hair? The answer is one of these ten scenarios:
1) When Allen Iverson got traded to the Detroit Pistons, the Denver Nuggets needed to use Carmelo’s hair to make the salaries match.
2) David Stern wanted to study the DNA of a player who is a great scorer but refuses to play defense.
3) Nuggets coach George Karl told Anthony he needed to lose five pounds. Instead of working out, Carmelo did the next best thing.
4) Carmelo was so inspired by Barack Obama, he decided to copy Obama’s hairstyle.
5) In an attempt to clean up …read more
