The new 2010 Chevrolet Colorado still remains one of the most popular mid-sized pickup trucks in North America. Despite soaring gas prices and a consumer lean towards smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles there will always be a market for pickup trucks. The Colorado is a great truck if you are looking for something that will get you and your tools to any job site. It can also tow it’s fair share, easily capable of hauling a light trailer.

2010 Chevrolet Colorado

The Colorado shares it’s frame with the GMC Canyon. Both trucks come in a variety of trims to best suit any need. Buying the right truck could be tricky. You first need to assess whether or not you’ll need to have crew seats. Most mid sized trucks only have two seats so this could be a big inconvenience if you need to carry more passengers. The next thing you need to consider is whether or not to go for the extended bed. 6 foot beds are standard but you may need more room if you plan on hauling stuff around.

The new 2009 Chevrolet Silverado should be at the top of the list for anyone who has to work with their hands for a living. This pickup truck was made for the construction worker. Starting with the rugged interior right down to the sturdy chassis and powerful engine.

2009 Chevrolet Silverado - by GMC.com

Now if it’s fuel economy you’re worried about you might like to consider the Silverado as an option. The truck comes with a few engine choices like the light 4.3L & 4.8L or heavier 5.3L and 6.0L Vortec V8 engines with Active Fuel Management Control. What this does is shut down gas flow to some of the pistons when the power isn’t needed. This saves on fuel but allows the car access to some real power when needed.

You can also get the Silverado to run on ethanol fuels which is a partially blended fuel that uses corn or other crops as a fuel source. Did I mention that the Silverado also comes in a hybrid. The new Silverado hybrid gets an impressive 21 mpg.

The Silverado is probably going to be your best buy in terms of pickup trucks. It was named best truck in the United States and Canada. This could be because of it’s impeccable safety rating or value. It was also the number one stolen car in North America last year. Did I also mention that the Silverado has a better resale value than Toyota, Ford or Dodge.

Thanks to Jayvee for passing this story along. :) Dude, I am still waiting for a cell phone that can start my car and drive it to me. Keep me in the loop!

***

The North American Concept Awards have been held for six years, and look over the wide variety of concept vehicles from the auto show season.

Despite a fresh new face for Jaguar, an “Holdy” but a goody from GM and a swank and sporty new look for jeep drivers, the Chevy Volt took the honors as both the 2007 Specialty Concept Vehicle of the Year and the Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2007.

Well, I should hope so (said in my most Rachel Lynd-ish manner possible.) NOW will companies focus less 600HP throwbacks to days gone by and think about our futures? Do people really expect the Volt not to sell? Maybe they know something we don’t??

When truck sales are falling for the first time in nearly 20 years and hybrid sales are through the roof, it only makes sense for GM to continue their hybrid truck production.

Best case scenario? Demand picks up and they boost production. Worst case scenario? They don’t sell, and GM closes the plant in the not-so-distant future.

The Silverado and Sierra hybrids are expected out by the end of 2008. The new two-mode hybrid system should boost fuel efficiency by 40% during city driving. You can find out more here.

I never thought this day would come. At a time when gas prices are really beginning to affect the way people live, not just drive, GM is closing truck and SUV plants (including the plant in Oshawa, Ontario where the hybrid Silverado/Sierras were going to be made! Grumble. Grumble.)

CEO Rick Wagoner claims the company is reviewing the Hummer’s future.
In light of a lack of interest for purchasing Hummer, GM may settle for redesigning the SUVs to much smaller scales (a la, the HX).
Read More Here

It makes sense to me that they’d scrap their vehicles that aren’t selling, and redesign classics to meet modern needs … but Why close a hybrid truck plant when gas prices are driving sales down? I know GM has made the Volt their #1 priority, but trucks are functional vehicles people are going to need, and they’re going to buy, but they’re not going to have better options. (Especially while they’re making hybrid SUVs that aren’t selling.)

Kelley Blue Book came out this week, saying that more owners are selling their SUVs now than ever (even though they’d probably get better prices in fall and winter). Now it’s reporting that sales for the biggest of the hybrid SUVs – namely the Yukon and Tahoe, didn’t scratch the service of what they were “supposed” to be.

I have to agree with David Friedman, the research director heading up the Union of Concerned Scientists’ vehicle program, who – according to the NY Times – wonders if GM is serious about selling hybrid SUVs or just in improving their image. They aren’t easy to buy. If you live in certain areas, you might get one by special order, and advertising hasn’t done enough to help spread the world.

While hybrid models are only $4000 more expensive, many consumers just don’t know about them.

Congrats to GM-Volt.com blogger, Lyle Dennis for organizing a Q&A with GM execs at the NY Auto Show. The session, dubbed “Volt Nation”, was attended by company vice chairman, Bob Lutz, among others. Readers came from all over the country to get a glimpse at the company’s latest plans for the car. Dennis has posted several video segments, and a recap of events online.

One thing I’m glad to see is the confidence of company execs that the car will be out in 2010. There were earlier reports that GM wasn’t sure that would happen. In any event, the company is absolutely, positively going ahead with the Volt – which may be the country’s first mass produced plug-in hybrid.
