Lovie Smith Dines with Obama

]]> Yay for Lovie Smith and Jay Cutler, who will be dining with our president tonight. Barack Obama is in Chicago at the home of Penny Pritzker and her husband, Bryan Traubert this evening before they all go down to a fundraiser at the Hyatt downtown. Apparently people are donating $15,000 apiece for the fundraiser! Wowsa.

Lovie Smith usually doesn’t get involved in politics, but how could you resist dining with the president? I can’t help wondering if Jay Cutler will throw a few questions about diabetes research the president’s way. Cutler is a Type 1 diabetic, and from one Type 1 to another, it wouldn’t hurt to see a few more dollars raised.

]]> My post about the resurgence of Schlitz (and other “retro” or “nostalgia” beers) generated the following question:

Why did Pabst change the name of their beer to Pabst Blue Ribbon?

And here’s your answer:

Pabst changed the name to Pabst Blue Ribbon since it was the first beer to win a blue ribbon at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893.

The 1893 World’s Fair also marked a few other firsts… Aunt Jemima syrup, Cracker Jack, Cream of Wheat and Juicy Fruit gum also made their debuts alongside diet carbonated soda and hamburgers, which were introduced to the United States.

Apparently, it was quite an event!
