LeBron James chipped in with 25 points, 12 assists and five rebounds. Delonte West had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Anderson Varejao had 15 points and nine rebounds while making all seven of his field goal attempts.

Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 27 points and nine rebounds. Jason Terry had 25 points off the bench. Defense was the problem for Dallas, as Cleveland scored 68 points in the first half.

Following the game, both teams had a record of 12-5.

Explained LeBron: “I hit it pretty bad on the rim. It’s like you hit your funny bone, but it’s not funny at all.”

LeBron finished the game with 34 points, nine assists, two rebounds, two steals and six turnovers. He didn’t get much help on the night. Shaquille O’Neal missed the game due to an injured shoulder and none of the other Cavs scored more than ten points.

The Wizards, on the other hand, had a lot of players step up. Antawn Jamison, who was playing in his first game of the season, scored 31 points and ripped down ten rebounds. Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas had 19 and 18 points, respectively.

The win dropped the Cavs to 8-4, while the Wizards improved to 3-7 with the win.

The Lakers are a long shot but LeBron is good friends with Kobe Bryant and he’d be heading to a huge media market.

4. Chicago Bulls
If LeBron doesn’t think the Cavs can get it done, how about being like Mike and heading to Chicago?

3. New York Knicks
The Knicks have been after LeBron for years. The Big Apple will allow LeBron to become a global icon.

2. New Jersey Nets
The Nets have a new billionaire owner in addition to Jay-Z. Add in their tons of salary cap space and they are definitely in the discussion.

1. Cleveland Cavaliers
When it comes down to it, LeBron will likely stay with Cleveland. That will be especially true if he can lead the Cavs to a championship.

While LeBron has recently been sick, that wasn’t the reason why he missed the game. Cleveland’s top three stars sat out due to this game being a back-to-back affair.

After missing two practices and a preseason contest, LeBron was back on the court on Thursday. Along with LeBron, Coby Karl and Darnell Jackson have been sidelined due to the flu.

Despite the fact that LeBron may have the swine flu, he’s looking at the bright side of the situation.

Said LeBron: “If it’s going to happen, now is the best time. I don’t wish anyone to be sick. I wish great health for everyone. But if this is the time the flu bug is going to hit our team, I’m glad it’s happening now.”

The Cavs have four more preseason games left. The next three are against Texan teams (the San Antonio Spurs and then the Dallas Mavericks twice) and the final exhibition outing is against the Boston Celtics. Cleveland also hosts the Celtics to begin the regular season. By then, LeBron should be fine — swine flu or no swine flu.

“On a personal note,” said Cavs head coach Mike Brown, “you always hope he’s doing well.”

Last season during training camp, West left the team to tackle his bipolar disorder. He went on to have arguably the best year of his career, averaging 11.7, 3.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game.

Hopefully, the 26-year-old is safe wherever he is and can get his life back in order. The Cavs certainly need him if they are going to be true championship contenders this NBA season.

A handgun was found in his pant leg, a handgun was found on his waist and a shotgun was found on his back in a guitar case. The 26-year-old was arrested for speeding and on weapon charges. His weapon charges were for carrying concealed weapons and for transporting loaded guns.

Last year, West started 63 games for Cleveland. He averaged 11.7 points, 3.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 33.6 minutes per contest. The 26-year-old, at least before this arrest, had a good shot to win a starting gig again this season.

Danny Ferry, the general manager of the Cavaliers, released a statement regarding West’s arrest.

Said Ferry: “We have been in communication with Delonte and his family. We are gathering more information and will not have further comment until the appropriate time.”

With NBA training camps only a few weeks away, the picture for the 2009-10 NBA season is getting clearer by the day. Here’s a look at the best of the best in the September edition of NBA power rankings:

1. Los Angeles Lakers
The reigning NBA champions are still the best in the league. As long as they stay healthy, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers will be extremely difficult to beat.

2. Cleveland Cavaliers
Although they lost to the Magic last year in the playoffs, in LeBron James the Cavs have the best player in the world. Add Shaquille O’Neal and a few other quality free agents and Cleveland has to be the favorite in the East.

3. Orlando Magic
The Magic made it to the Finals last year and they very well could be better right now. As long as Vince Carter fits in smoothly, the Magic will once again be dangerous.

4. Boston Celtics
Although the Big Three is getting up their in age, the Celtics very well could have another run left in their gas tank. However, for that to happen, Kevin Garnett will need to be healthy.

5. San Antonio Spurs
In the West, the Spurs jumped back near to the top of the conference due to a number of quality offseason moves — namely their trade for Richard Jefferson.
