Florida dominated the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, earning 53 of 59 first-place votes. That’s no surprise, since golden boy Tim Tebow is back for one more year with the school. Here’s the rest of the top ten:

Texas received four first-place votes, and Oklahoma and USC each had one first-place vote. We’re going to see match-ups between many of these top ten teams, but by then, we could see some of these schools fall from grace. Are there any surprised coming from down below? Earlier today, I reported on a story involving UCLA’s coaches and their salaries. Both head football coach Rick Neuheisel and the school’s basketball coach have volunteered to reduce their salaries to help relieve the state and school budget. Like many major college football coaches, Neuheisel makes over a million, plus gets bonuses for doing well.
But there are many coaches who make even more. It’s no surprise that USC’s Pete Carrol tops the list, making a base salary of $4.4 million. Here’s the rest of the top ten:

It won’t be long before Lane Kiffin will finally get to show us what he can do as the new head coach for the Tennessee Volunteers. Over the past several months, his comments and actions have rubbed some the wrong way, but Kiffin hasn’t apologized, nor does it look like he will anytime soon.
Recently, Kiffin spoke with WGFX in Tennessee about his job, and he attributes his antics to the fact that the SEC is very, very passionate about football. I wouldn’t totally disagree with him.

We heart coach rants and tantrums, and we heart them even more when it means a joke at the expense of the New York Yankees.
The bad news is, the Yankees took this game against the Baltimore Orioles (thanks to Robinson Cano) in the bottom of the ninth and have won two in a row.
The good news is, the Boston Red Sox are on a 7-game win streak, the Yanks are 7.5 games behind and in last place, and GM Joe Girardi got ejected from yesterday’s game against Baltimore (46s):

Between Gregg Popovich lambasting the San Antonio Spurs (despite a win–thanks for sending, Pat!) and Tony Stewart sounding off about Goodyear, it’s clear that rants are in the air. And even if they aren’t, we feel like posting about them anyway.
