By itself, Agwa is sweet and fresh tasting with a hint of something…citrus maybe? Or, maybe it tastes like cocaine since Agwa is the world’s only Coca Leaf Liqueur – I wouldn’t know since I’ve never tried cocaine but if you have and you try Agwa, let me know, OK? Just so you know, the leaves have been boiled down to remove the cocaine but awesome little alkaloids remain to give  you an energy buzz.

One of the best ways to drink Agwa is by making a Bolivian Kiss.

The simplicity of the drink is one thing that makes it so fabulous. Get yourself a wedge of lime, an ice cold shot of Agwa and then bite into your lime and shoot the Agwa. The lime messes with the pH of your mouth and makes the Agwa more potent.

The drink below is how I ended up drinking my bottle of Agwa de Bolivia.

I didn’t name this so name it what you will but it tastes like a tart margarita and packs a heck of a punch.

Ingredients:

• 45 ml Agwa de Bolivia
• 30 ml Ketel One Vodka
• 15 ml lime juice
• 15 ml simple syrup
• ice

Directions:

Add all of your ingredients to a shaker half filled with ice. Shake until your arms get tired.

Strain into your favorite glass – I used an Old Fashioned glass – and garnish with a wedge of lime.

And, in case you’ve forgotten how to make simple syrup, the ratio is 2 parts sugar to 1 part water. I used 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water. Heat the mixture until the sugar is dissolved and once it’s cool, store it in a squirt bottle in your fridge. The stuff will keep for just about forever.

Agwa de Bolivia is a strange, wonderful drink that everyone should try. Chances are good that your local liquor store isn’t going to have the green stuff but if you ask the person who does the purchasing, you might be able to get them to order you some.

Consider Agwa de Bolivia a Christmas present to yourself.

Agwa de Bolivia

The stuff that most people have never heard of and the stuff that’s maybe a bit hard to find at the corner liquor store is my cup of…well…booze.

When I say weird, I don’t mean that in a bad way; I mean it in the nicest way possible. Maybe I should say “different” or “off the beaten path” but weird just seems to work the best.

Agwa de Bolivia is a liquor made of coca leaves and in my book, that makes it a “weird” liquor.

Before you go searching for a bottle of the green stuff to get high on cocaine, you should know that all of the cocaine has been removed by boiling the heck out of the leaves. However, you still get a euphoric feeling from the other chemical goodies that come in the coca leaves.

I have a bottle coming to me and I’m excited to get to try the Bolivian Kiss – a drink that has apparently gained a following in Amsterdam.

The Bolivian Kiss

Ingredients:

• wedge of lime
• 1 oz of Agwa de Bolivia

Directions:

Bite the wedge of lime and then chase it with the shot of Agwa de Bolivia. It seems backwards but the lime apparently changes the PH of your mouth and enhances the drinking experience.

Agwa de Bolivia but without the Cocaine

Earlier today, Hingis went on the record and announced she had been accused by an “outsource testing company” of taking cocaine during Wimbledon. Hingis lost in the third round to Laura Granville, 6-4, 6-2.

On the heels of her accusation announcement, Hingis reported she would be retiring from professional tennis. The 27-year-old Swiss decided the years it could take to clear her name wasn’t worth trying to continue to play at the top of the game anymore.

Hingis was naturally “shocked and appalled” at the accusations and had this to say about the alleged cocaine use.

“They say that cocaine increases self-confidence and creates a type of euphoria. I don’t know. I only know that if I were to try to hit the ball while in any state of euphoria, it simply wouldn’t work.”

Well – if Hingis says it won’t work, then it won’t work, right? On a side note, the WTA Tour has not received any official information about a positive test. Hold the phone, the WTA Tour hasn’t heard the official word about a positive test?  Then what is all the hoop-a-la about? Check in at Gossip on Sports tomorrow for some answers to that.

So – the accusations fly, Hingis is denying and Andy Murray is officially off the front page for his fender bender. The bottom line?  Cocaine – just say no.
