It’s My Life

Sorry for the Bon Jovi reference but it just seemed to fit.
I had an interesting discussion with friends the other day about life meters. Life meters are a part of games that I have mixed emotions about.  Back in the day when arcade machines were fed with quarters, the life meter was a necessary evil.  If you were not dieing then you were not feeding the beast.
With the advent of home consoles systems, life meters were made obsolete.  Dying every few seconds to get more quarters no longer serves any purpose. It was just annoying and could ruin a …read more

New Commanding Officer…Ten-Hut!

My name is Tucker.  I have assumed all duties that pertain to FPS Rantings.  Whereas, I am new to blogging, I have been playing video games since the mid 1980s.  I started with an ATARI 2600 where I was the vine swinging, scorpion jumping, ladder climbing, king of the jungle.  It was not until the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) that I was introduce to the FPS.  Duck Hunt was crazy.  Actually shooting a gun at 8-bit  ducks was mind blowing, I was hooked.  This love affair served me well throughout high school, my time in the U.S. Navy and …read more

Call of Duty 4 graphics comparison: PS3 versus Xbox 360

Ever wondered if the Cell processor really makes PS3 games look better than its Xbox 360 counterpart? Watch the short clip below to compare.

You’ll see that the graphics look virtually the same. However, I did notice a very slight difference. The Xbox 360 version had sharper shadows to some extent. I can’t say if GameTrailers used the exact same TV, but there might be more factors to be considered when doing a straight-up comparison.

Call of Duty 4 video review

How does GameTrailers like the latest Call of Duty? A lot, I’d say.

Gaming vest provides force feedback

I’m sure all of you miss your DualShock. Sure, the pads may be coming next year, but that PS3 controller feels a little odd without the shakes. An email I received the other day made me think there might be more to force feedback than DualShock.

Meet surgeon Mark Ombrellaro, the designer of a tele-health device that ended up as a game accessory. Tell me if you’ve ever heard this one: 3rd Space, Ombrellaro’s brain child, is a vest that uses air pressure and feedback from video games to inflict pneumatic thumps to the spots on your torso where you …read more

Call of Duty 4 is lighting it up

What makes our shooters look great? More textures and polygons? Yes and yes. But the feature that sets them apart from other smaller details that you may overlook is lighting. Don’t believe me? Boot up F.E.A.R. and try playing the game with low lighting details. You’ll see graphics that scream 1998. Well not exactly 1998 since the textures and models are way more superior, but you get the idea.
Infinity Ward has the same idea for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and they share their thoughts in this trailer:

It’s nice to see that the series has abandoned its World …read more
