Weekend Review: Shaw Wins Detroit & U of Ark are Champs

     Over this past weekend there were a couple of significant happenings in the world of tournament bass fishing.
Alvin Shaw Wins The Chevy Open In Detroit

   Kellogg’s Pro, Alvin Shaw won FLW’s Chevy Open this past weekend in Detroit. He defended his day 3 lead with a day 4 sack that weighed 18-13 lbs. earning him the $200,000 payday. His 4 day total of 80-14 lbs. beat out 2nd place finisher and local Pringles Pro, Vic Vatalaro by just 3 ounces.

Auburn Leads Day 2 of CBNC

     With the biggest bag of the tournament so far, Auburn Universities Josh Chapple and Adam Murphee own the top spot after weighing in a day 2 sack of 14.08 lbs. Their two day total of 24.07 lbs. has them in the lead by about 5 and a half pounds lead going into the 3rd and final day.
     The Day 1 leaders from Alabama University slipped to 2nd only weighing in 6.27 lbs. on day 2 for a combined weight of 18.99 lbs. They will need to have another day much like their day 1 and hope that Auburn Universities team has their worst day yet …read more

University of Alabama Leads Day 1

University of Alabama Leads Day 1

     Foster Bradley and Jeff Aul of the University Alabama are in the lead after day 1 of the College Bass national Championship presented by Under Armour with 12.72 lbs. The two have opened more than a 2 pound lead over Texas A&M’s team of Andrew Shafer and Scott Edmonds. The pair sit in 2nd with 10.2 lbs.

College Bass National Championship Underway

College Bass National Championship Underway

     The Under Armour College Bass National Championship is underway. The event on Lake Maumelle in Arkansas is hosting 54 teams from college campuses and universities across the map. The two-man team event will go from today, July 9-11 as Virginia Tech defends their title.

TBF Goes College Bass Fishing

     While it’s no secret that College Bass Fishing is growing much faster than anyone had anticipated, it doesn’t seem to want to slow down for a breather. Announced recently was that The Bass Federation is now providing advice and structure methods to College Bass Clubs. So what does this mean? For the most part it means that College Bass Clubs can know affiliate their clubs with TBF and receive rewarded advances and entries into other TBF and FLW Sanctioned events through the Collegiate Bass Championship such as, The Living The Dream Package, BFL All-American and Forrest Wood Cup Qualification. …read more

Ultimate Match Fishing Goes To College

     We had always wondered who would win if some of our favorite anglers went head to head in a fishing face-off. Until Ultimate Match Fishing came along, those curiosities remained  a debate among fans. Now, every season we get to see a bracket style tournament that pits some of today’s best in the business in a head to head style tournament in which one angler is eventually crowned the UMF Champion and awarded $50,000.

Collegiate Bass To Impose A “Ranking Model”

     How neat is it for the students going to college right now? If they are anglers or fans of fishing than it is pretty sweet and getting even sweeter. The sanctioning body over Collegiate Bass Angling is the Collegiate Bass Angling Association (CBAA). They provide various councils as well as sanction and host various Bass Fishing Tournaments and Championships. While still fairly young, Collegiate Bass Fishing seems to be taking root and gaining more and more momentum every year with the help of the CBAA and its sponsors.

     Over the past weekend, the National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship (NCBFC) was help on Texas’s Lake Lewisville. The event played host to 83 teams represented by 48 different schools. The format was similar to Pro level tournaments alike. Two man teams would compete over 2 days in an attempt to make the top 5 cut for the final and third day were their weights would be zeroed.
