R.I.P. College Football Media Guides

As colleges look for more and more ways to save money, it is becoming increasing apparent that printed media guides are dying a slow death. More and more colleges are deciding to discontinue them. Printing all of those guides gets really expensive.
I’m totally on board with this decision. Not only will it save colleges money, but it will also cut down on paper usage, making it a green decision as well. Some of the colleges that will not be printing media guides anymore include:

Iowa State
Ohio State
Michigan
Wisconsin

Iowa and all of the Pac-10 schools are also considering the move.

Four Coaches to Watch in 2008

Without a good coach, your football team is nothing.
In 2007, we saw some amazing coaching (and some amazingly bad coaching). While the entire coaching staff is important, it is ultimately the head coach that makes the calls on everything. Here’s who I think will be interesting to watching in 2008:
Charlie Weis, Notre Dame
After announcing earlier this year that he’d be giving up some of his power on the field to regroup a bit, it will be interesting to see the new head coach dynamic between Coach Weis, his staff, and his players. I think this move is, overall, a good …read more

Top Five Recruits for 2009

Everyone’s been talking about the class of 2008 lately (and with good reason), but on their shirt tails is the class of 2009 – and many recruiters have already started thinking about these talented junior players. I don’t want to get too deeply into it just yet, but Rivals.com recently updated their 2009 recruiting Top 100 list, so I wanted to post here the current top 5, and the schools they are considering:
1. Matt Barkley, Quarterback, committed to USC (we’ll see if that changes though!)
2. Jamarkus McFarland, Defensive Tackle

Florida
Nebraska
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas A&M

3. Cierre Wood, Running Back

California
Florida
Ole Miss
Nebraska
North Carolina
Notre Dame
San Diego …read more

4. Arizona State playing #21 California at home (I prediction an Arizona win, but a close game)
5. Oregon playing #12 USC at hom(I think Oregon will fall, but agiain, a close game)
6. Oklahoma off this week

USC takes it up the…well, you know

USC takes it up the…well, you know

Stanford 24, USC 23.
You must be joking, right? Nope. USC just took it up the butt.
It what must have seemed like a bad dream to USC Coach Pete Carroll , the Stanford Cardinal rallied and to score 17 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning touchdown. USC QB John David Booty can actually be credited for that touchdown, having turned the ball over four times. I don’t totally blame Booty for the ass-raping, though. He was just the lube. The whole team bent over for this one, playing more like Notre Dame than a Bowl contender. The game …read more
