NFL Draft Outlook: Vince Young

NFL Draft Outlook: Vince Young

In my opinion, the greatest talent in the draft this year is Longhorn Quarterback Vince Young.  Some experts give the top ranking to USC cornerstones Reggie Bush or Matt Leinart, but I gave Vince Young top billing back when Alabama was still running in the cool #3 slot in the BCS poll.

Lately, I’ve been looking at some of the expert opinions of this years draft and predicting where Vince Young will be picked is about as dodgy as trying to hunt whitetail at night.

Countdown to the Draft: The New England Patriots, (10-6)

The big question going into the offseason is where the Patriots are.
Are they rebuilding, or are they crumbling, or are they always getting better? I tend to subscribe to the second option.
They’ve lost Willie McGinest, Ty Law, David Patten, and Adam Vinatieri, and replaced them with horrible players like Randal Gay. They have a long list of needs going into the draft, that, quite frankly, they aren’t going to be able to fill. They have, without a doubt, lost their status as the team to beat, and are now just another team getting worn away by the cap. …read more

Countdown to the Draft- This week is the AFC East

Really, it was a pretty weak year for the NFC East. Two years ago they were one of the strongest division, with the Jets and the Patriots both making the playoffs and doing something, and the Bills just missing out.
Last year they weren’t half as good. The Patriots were horrible, really, but the division was even worse, as were the Jaguars. The Jets weren’t worth much as they circulated between quarterbacks the entire season. The Dolphins are still going through rebuilding, and they weren’t even expected to compete. Their strong finish was a pleasant surprise, but make no mistake, …read more

Countdown to the Draft: The Carolina Panthers, NFC South (11-5)

The Panthers doing well this year was really quite predictable. They went to the Super Bowl and lost two years ago. Last year they were actually quite a good team, but injuries killed them, though they still managed to go on a hot streak at the end, only missing the playoffs on a blocked 50+ yard field goal in the last game of the season against the Saints that ultimately saved their coach’s job (this is a good thing?)
This year they came out firing defeating New England early on in the season quite easily.
A few games later and things …read more

Countdown to the Draft: The New Orleans Saints, NFC South (3-13)

Looking back on it, I don’t think that the Saints ever really had a chance. I mean think about it: before the season started they were already without a home and destined to play in strange environments all sixteen games. Their first game was immediately delayed and moved to the Giant’s stadium. That alone could really throw you off. The thing is, that wasn’t all. They also had to take care of their families, pack their bags, fly out of New Orleans, and get themselves some temporary housing.
That’s stressful for anyone. But that didn’t mean they could just sit …read more

Countdown to the Draft: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, NFC South (11-5)

When he arrived in Tampa Bay, John Gruden was pretty much set. He had Tony Dungy’s players who were all well-coached and hard-working. After winning the 2003 Super Bowl, he made for himself a reputation of being somehwat of a genius. He was so young, yet already so accomplished.
After the 2003 Super Bowl, however, things pretty much started to fall apart in the Tampa Bay organization, and people began to wonder if maybe he was the one responsible. Had the Bucs missed out on the playoffs this year, it’s very possible he would have gotten the axe. However, they …read more

Countdown to the Draft: The Atlanta Falcons, NFC South (8-8)

Ah yes. The Falcons. Is Vick overrated or is he underrated? It depends on who you ask. If you ask a 14 year old boy who spends all day playing Madden, he will tell you that Mike Vick is perhaps the greatest quarterback in history.
If you were to ask a scout, he would tell you that Vick is talented. But is he good? They’d shrug.
If you were to ask a certain NFL blogger who really knows his stuff, but who will remain nameless, he would tell you that Vick is the most over hyped, overrated, overpaid, underachieving quarterback ever. …read more

Countdown to the Draft- This week is the NFC South

The NFC South. No one quite knew what to make of it last year. Coming into the season people were expecting a lot from the Falcons. They were coming off a trip to the NFC Championship game, where they were outplayed by the Eagles.
This was to be Vick’s year. This was to be the year he really took the next step as a passer.

Down in Louisiana the Saints never really had a chance. Aaron Brooks wasn’t any better than last year, when he wasn’t any better than the year before. He always plays just well enough to get …read more

New Series: Countdown to the draft

In case you didn’t notice, there are exactly eight weeks until the NFL draft. In case you didn’t notice, and I did, there are eight divisions in the NFL.
I’ve got the makings of a series. So, starting Monday every week I’m going to cover a different division.
On Monday I’ll look back at last year and review the drafts the teams made, how they did in the season, and what their needs are. The next four days of the week I’ll cover each team individually in far more detail.
This Week: The NFC South
