Windows Vista 5456 released
Technical beta testers can now download the June CTP, AKA Build 5456. More details should follow, but you can read some more about it here. No word yet if the build will be available through public beta. I don’t think so because the next build for the public will be RC1, probably in August (via edbott.com).
Critical review of Vista
Paul Thurrott from winsupersite.com has a very good (and critical) article on Vista. In his fifth CTP review he mainly writes about how disappointed he is in the upcoming Windows Vista release. He rambles about everything that is wrong with Vista and the company that’s releasing it. Vista seems to be just an upgraded version of XP and is released way too late. Public download of Vista CTP 5308
It seems that a couple of links have been leaked, so anyone can now download the 5308 build of MS Vista. The file is 2.71GB, and is named FebCTP_5308_32bit_Main_Staged_DVD.iso. Too bad for the freeloaders that the build can only be installed by those with a valid Windows Vista Product key, which are issued only to official testers and MSDN/Technet Subscribers (via jcxp.net).
Evaluating the MS CTP program
Redmondmag.com has an article about testing Windows Vista and the way Microsoft could be doing more to improve it.
Some time this month, if Microsoft sticks to schedule, the company will deliver its latest test build of Windows Vista to hundreds of thousands of testers. Seems like a perfect time to contemplate how well Microsoft’s Vista beta/Community Technology Preview (CTP) program is going.
