Jostens finalists named
The top 10 finalists for the Jostens Trophy were announced today by members of the Rotary Club of Salem, Va. The club is responsible for the initial review of annual nominations and narrowed the pool to 10 men and 10 women finalists.
The men’s finalists: Jimmy Bartolotta, MIT; Jose Guitian, Lasell; Rashawn Johnson, Wesley; Tim Madson, Bethel; Scott Morton, Geneseo State; John Noonan, Ursinus; Joel Patch, Susquehanna; Kent Raymond, Wheaton (Ill.); Jeff Skemp, UW-Platteville; Tony Thrasher, Hamline.

UMD can’t slow down RIC’s roll
Rhode Island College won its eighth consecutive game and the 12th in its past 13, as Kaseem Johnson turned in a double-double and Antone Gray scored a team-high 18 points in the No. 25 Anchormen’s 82-71 win against No. 15 Mass-Dartmouth on Tuesday night.

Lawrence knocked off a ranked opponent for the second time in four days, as the Vikings went to St. Norbert and beat the No. 11 Green Knights, 75-52.
Lawrence had won 94-67 at then-No. 24 Carroll on Saturday. Carroll was playing without its best player, John Hoch, who was averaging 24 points per game.
Tuesday night’s win ended St. Norbert’s 15-game winning streak, a run which included an upset of then-No. 1 UW-Platteville. Tuesday night’s men’s scores.

St. Thomas and Illinois Wesleyan have taken over as the new No. 1 teams in the D3hoops.com Top 25. It’s the first time for either school at the top of the poll in its 10-year history.
The Tommies, who are the only undefeated team in Division III men’s basketball, received 18 of 25 voters’ first-place votes. Defending national champion Washington U., which defeated then-No. 18 Carnegie Mellon 90-70 on the road on Sunday afternoon, got the other seven. The full poll.

Wartburg ends BVU streak
Buena Vista had won 11 consecutive games, five of those by four points or less or in overtime. But the No. 6 Beavers’ luck ran out when they ran into Wartburg on Monday night.
Wartburg shot 13-for-24 from three-point range and handled Buena Vista in giving the Beavers their first conference loss, 80-66. Cole Danielson hit seven of them in scoring a game-high 25 points, while Mitch Eslick added three three-pointers in the win.

The rest of the top 10 remain steady with the exception of Elmhurst (9-4), which dropped from 10th to 20th after three straight losses.
Illinois Wesleyan and Ursinus drop out of the top 25 and were replaced by No. 21 and undefeated Franklin and Marshall (11-0) and N0. 25 William Patterson (10-2).

Wheaton (Ill.) became the third No. 1 men’s team in as many polls as the Thunder climbed into the top spot in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25.
The Thunder, who finished their non-conference schedule 11-0, including a 130-109 win at Grinnell in Saturday’s action, received 16 first-place votes. Wheaton’s path to No. 1 was opened when the previous top men’s team, UW-Platteville, lost by a bucket at St. Norbert.

In a clash between top 10 teams, Elmhurst knocked Washington University out of the number one spot last weekend 82-75.
The loss dropped defending Division III national champions to 9-1 and fourth in this week’s poll. Elmhurst (9-1) jumps from 10th to seventh.
That means your new number one team is the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The Pioneers are 10-0 and received 13 of 25 first place votes.
The number one ranking is the first for the Pioneers in more than nine years.
