Dance Dance Revolution Disney Grooves might not be the most macho video game title to be released this week but I’m not going to skip over it since I personally know a good number of guys who not only like this game but also secretly enjoy the odd Disney song or movie (High School Musical fans – I know who you are!).

Besides, it makes a great party or family game which is a good idea to consider heading into the holiday season when people will be gathering. Instead of arguing about who Aunt Mabel loves more, why not blow off some steam (and the calories from the turkey dinner!) with a silly game? In fact, using the Nintendo Wii, you can actually track the number of calories you’ve burned during your “work out.”

The game includes 40 popular Disney songs and all of the characters that we all know and love. Players can also use their Wii and customize it using Disney outfits and accessories.

Dance Dance Revolution is one of those games that you are either going to really like or really hate and I’m guessing there continues to be a strong market for the games since developers continue to release new titles.

The Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 bundle was released yesterday and, while I’m not sure I’m going to rush out and buy this, I’m sure that fans of the games will find it a lot of fun. It is used with the floor peripheral but, for the first time, players can use the Wii Balance Board. I think that I would like that a lot more because I find the mat a little cumbersome and weird to store. Has anyone ever had it suddenly stop working? We did and then after a few weeks, it suddenly healed itself. Very weird.

According to the Amazon product information, this current version of the game features the following:

Extensive new modes, including a fresh new Workout Mode, fun new Story Mode, Kids Modes with much simpler controls and Lesson Mode (DDR School) to practice timing and the direction of arrows so that new dancers can learn the basic.
Game bundled with DanceDanceRevolution dance pad floor controller for Wii with additional controller compatibility including: Wii Remote/nunchuck and Wii Balance Board.
Exclusive gimmicks such as the Hip Roll and Bump Arrows appear in-game and built-in fitness functionality allows you to punch while moving your hips to get a workout in while playing.
Costume customization of your DanceDanceRevolution dancer, including your importable Miis.
Game include 2-4 local multiplayer support in versus mode and contains 60 tracks on disc, including major licensed master original Latin tracks.

I love the fact that you can get a workout of sorts with the hip roll and punching action. There’s also that new Kids Mode which would be great for my youngest since she always feels a little overwhelmed by the advance levels.

The Dance Dance Revolution or affectionately known as DDR may be not as hot as before but its effect is evident in this Finger Dance Alarm Clock. In order to stop the alarm, you must use your fingers to dance the right sequence. Else, use your leg to execute some sleek moves but break it at your own risk. £9.99 for one.

No More DDR Doubles

My short-lived experiment playing Dance Dance Revolution with two dance pads has been ended while I still have my skull intact.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to jump from pad to pad when both are situated on a hardwood floor. Especially a hardwood floor covered with cat hair. You wouldn’t know it, but that stuff’s as slippery as butter on ball bearings.

It was really kind of fun while it lasted, though. If I had carpet, or the time and inclination to lay down some rugs, I’d try it again. Thing is, my apartment doesn’t have the room for two dance pads, anyway.

I’ll be taking a short break from DDR anyway to get over whatever brand of ebola my husband saw fit to transfer to me. Cough cough.

Although I hardly choose to believe it, we’ve finally broken winter’s back. Birdsong and soft air now usher in a well-earned age of spring. I can actually play outside again, but I think I’ll keep up my Dance Dance Revolution regimen.

In fact, I’m thinking of using two dance pads. Am I ready for this monumental step? The biggest problem here is finding the space. I don’t have much of it in my apartment, which is pretty narrow. I’m not so concerned about the noise factor, since a schizophrenic women lives below us and screams at all hours of the day. She might be glad for the back-beat I’ll be providing for her feverish rantings.

I’m going to go for it. I’ll update from the Emergency Room after I break both my legs.
