When Dane took the stage in front of an intimate crowd of just 400 people at Hollywood’s Laugh Factory, he opted to go for darker, more cutting-edge material than he usual uses (if you’re like me, you’re thinking “how much farther can he really push it?”). I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy tomorrow and find out!

In the double-digipak, you’ll get a full-length CD of his act plus a DVD documenting the making of the album.

When I first heard about the cast for My Best Friend’s Girl (2008), I was so turned off that I didn’t even go to the theatres to see it, nor did I rent it when it first came out on DVD earlier this year. It was my birthday yesterday and I needed a comedy but I couldn’t think of any that I hadn’t seen and I didn’t feel like going to the theater. So, I browsed through the recently released DVDs at Blockbuster and decided on this one (the “unrated” version).

So, I browsed through the recently released DVDs at Blockbuster and decided on this one (the “unrated” version).

image: IMDb.com

The story follows Tank (Dane Cook) who faces the ultimate test of friendship when his best friend, Dustin (Jason Biggs) hires him to take his ex-girlfriend, Alexis (Kate Hudson) out on a horrible date. Why would Dustin do that? To make Alexis realize that he is much better than men like Tank. Yeah, dumb idea… As you can predict, things get complicated when Tank begins to fall for Alexis but it gets downright horrifying when he’s invited to her sister’s wedding and gets recognized for taking the bride on the worst date of her life. The lies begin to unravel and you’ll find yourself laughing as you cringe in your seat.

I love Dane Cook as a stand-up comedian and I did like Jason Biggs in the American Pie franchise but not as much in any of his other movies. I am not a big fan of Kate Hudson’s with the exception of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and, even then, I think it was the result of a good plot rather than her acting skills. So, I really wasn’t sure how the three of them were going to work out together. In the end, I wonder if the director felt the same way because they really did not appear in too many scenes together (off-hand, I can only think of the three of them being in the same room twice). I think that was the movie’s saving grace. Alec Baldwin makes an appearance as Tank’s womanizing father and (no surprise there) he plays the role exceedingly well. I wanted to punch him about two-thirds into the movie.

Watch the trailer for the theatrical version (the unrated is a little longer and, of course, a lot dirtier):

“There’s only one October.” This is a true statement and a tag line that Major League Baseball is sticking with for their postseason marketing campaign. I’m all for it, as long as they don’t have those awful Dane Cook commercials popping up to bug me while I watch reruns of The Office on TBS. MLB is looking to appeal to baseball fans this year, by relating to the explosion of blogging.

MLB has already started running their ad campaigns with various commercials, like the one below, that features someone sitting at a computer as you hear their thoughts out loud and see various words typed across the screen as if they were typing a blog post. MLB will call on some of its own players to star in these commercials, including Torii Hunter, Carlos Pena and Kosuke Fukudome, among others. I’m looking forward to seeing more of these commercials, and maybe it will keep me from turning the channel when Cook’s likeness was shown on TV last season.

In other baseball related news, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network has announced that they will broadcast more Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals games in HD next season. Oh boy! It’s hard to watch these two teams play at times in regular definition or in person, why do we need Hi-Def to see them play?

The network announced that it will carry “as many as 200″ broadcasts in HD. I would guess that would depend on just how well the Orioles or Nationals are doing next season, but I would guess MASN viewers may be only seeing the minimum of one game a week in HD. Which games will those be? You know… when the Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees visit Camden Yards or when the New York Mets or Philadelphia Phillies visit the D.C. area.
