Just by looking at him, he looks like an NBA player. DeRozan has good size, great athleticism, explosive quickness and he’s very fluid on the move. Also, he has long been a top-flight prospect and has played well in multiple situations.

Just by looking at him, he looks like an NBA player. DeRozan has good size, great athleticism, explosive quickness and he’s very fluid on the move. Also, he has long been a top-flight prospect and has played well in multiple situations.

In his one and only season at USC, DeRozan averaged 13.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He also hit .523 percent of his field goals.

However, his stats also point out some weaknesses. He connected on only 16.7% of his three pointers. He also average more turnovers (2.1) than assists. He steals (0.9) and blocks (0.4) per game weren’t very impressive — especially considering his athleticism.

Right now, it’s difficult to figure out where in the draft he’ll end up going. DeRozan could go in the top five or could slip to around ten.

An Arizona State win and USC goes to the N.I.T.

But noooooooooooo!

Now the No. 23 Sun Devils loss will have you sitting on pins and needles on Sunday. You’ll have to wait and see if you will be one of the 65 teams to get into the tournament. Your chances became fewer, because the Sun Devils couldn’t hold off USC today in a 66-63 loss USC’s backyard at Staples Center.

It was the first Pac-10 championship for the Trojans (21-12), which advances to the Big Dance for the third straight year. The Trojans waited until the conference tournament to have a good run after going 1-6 in February.

USC trailed by 15 at halftime, and then went on a 29-16 run in the second half. Arizona State had a chance to win it, but Pac-10 Player of the Year, James Harding had one of the worst 50 seconds ever, missing a free throw, layup and three-pointer that could have made the difference.

Freshman DeMar DeRozan scored a game-high 25 points and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for USC.

Arizona State finishes the regular season at 23-9, and will no doubt get an invite, along with No. 10 Washington, No. 15 UCLA, and maybe California.

I said maybe. Don’t hold your breath Bear fans.

In the meantime, whichever one of you gets bumped out of the tournament tomorrow, I would suggest sending a dozen thorns to Arizona State.

DeRozan became eligible with his overall grade point average and recent ACT scores and is ready to enroll in summer classes.

DeRozan, a McDonalds All-American, who was also the event’s Slam Dunk Champion, was a beast for Compton last season averaging 29 points and 8 rebounds a game.

DeRozan was the top recruit for the Trojans, but they nearly lost him. He and his family were considering opting out of his letter of commitment for another after the whole O.J. Mayo madness broke after the NCAA Tournament.

But whatever changed his mind is obviously great for the Trojans. DeRozan is a solid player and a great ball handler. The chances of him staying at USC for more than a couple of years probably aren’t that great, but you can rest assured that he will be a great asset and will probably not be seen with anyone who works for an agent during his tenure as a player.
