And how are players reacting?

Here is the probably one of the greatest quotes ever by freshman forward Trey Thompkins from the story by Tim Tucker.

“I’d like to play for Coach Knight — as long as he doesn’t hit me.”

Stay tuned!

Another weird firing/resignation in the Southeastern Conference?
A year ago Dennis Felton somehow managed to get Georgia to the SEC championship game.
Today he’s out of a job.
Huh?
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that the Bulldogs are 9-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference this season, including seven straight losses. Felton was 84-91 overall and 26-59 against SEC teams.
Ok, never mind.

Now that we (when I say we I mean Ryan) have done the NBA draft to death with phenomenal coverage that make some of the other sites bow their heads in awe and worship, it’s time to get on with other news.

It looks like it’s three strikes and you are out for Georgia Bulldogs junior guard Billy Humphrey. Georgia Coach Dennis Felton had finally had enough of Humphrey’s shenanigans and dismissed him after his third arrest.

The final nail in the coffin for Humphrey was a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) failure to maintain his lane and the underage purchase of alcohol last week. Humphrey is 20, and whether the rest of you and Humphrey believe it or not, the legal drinking age is still 21.

It was the second time he was busted for underage drinking. In February he was also caught for possession of alcohol after leaving an Athens nightclub.

Humphrey was previously arrested in November of last year for possessing a pocket knife more than two inches long on the University of Georgia campus, which is a felony weapons charge. That was enough for a suspension.

In all seriousness, it looks like Humphrey will have to find another place to play college basketball and it’s too bad. The 6-2, 190 pound junior guard looked like he was coming into his own averaging 12.2 points a game for the Bulldogs last season.

Let’s hope that this is the wake up call that Humphrey needs to straighten himself out, stay out of trouble and away from the booze and weapons before he and/or someone gets seriously hurt.

Unbelievable…(shaking my head back and forth). Another sports day, another story of college basketball players skipping school. Wow. I’m at a loss for words (well, not really…)
The University of Georgia suspended three players today for violating the newly instituted class attendance policy. Center Albert Jackson is suspended for six games, forward Takais Brown is suspended for nine games, and guard Mike Mercer will miss the Bulldogs first 15 games.
In an effort to raise their graduation rate, Georgia instituted a strict attendance policy that punished players with fines and game suspensions for unexcused absences.
Apparently, the Bulldog trio didn’t get the memo. [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

Wow. I’m at a loss for words (well, not really…)

In an effort to raise their graduation rate, Georgia instituted a strict attendance policy that punished players with fines and game suspensions for unexcused absences.

Apparently, the Bulldog trio didn’t get the memo. Or maybe they did get they memo…they just couldn’t read it because of all the classes they’ve skipped.

I applaud the Bulldogs and head coach Dennis Felton for coming down hard on the truant players. Too many student athletes focus all their attention on the “athlete” part and not enough on the “student” part.

Monday October 29th – well, the saga involving the 3 suspended Georgia Bulldog players took another twist last Friday when Takais Brown was kicked off of the team for good.

Brown, the leading scorer for the Dawgs last season, was dismissed from the squad after violating unspecified team rules. While it may hurt the Dawgs in the short term, I applaud coach Felton for thinking of the long-term stability and character of the Georgia program. If you want to run a quality program, you need to recruit kids who are quality individuals, not just quality players.
