Nuggets Destroy Lakers in Denver

The Denver Nuggets and their fans don’t like the Los Angeles Lakers very much. On Friday night, the city of Denver had a great time cheering on their Nuggets as they destroyed the Lakers by a final score of 105-79. In a rematch of the 2009 Western Conference Finals, the Lakers were no match for the surging Nuggets.
The Nuggets were led by Carmelo Anthony’s 25 points in 30 minutes. J.R. Smith had 20 points off the bench in 23 minutes, while rookie point guard Ty Lawson chipped in with 13 points and six assists.
Kobe Bryant was uncharacteristically quiet for the …read more

NBA Power Rankings – October Edition

Although we are just a couple of days into the 2009-10 NBA season, there are a few teams who are off to a great start who should be recognized. Here are the top five teams in our first NBA power rankings of the season.
5. San Antonio Spurs
In their first game of the season, the Spurs looked dominant against the Hornets. They tripped up in their second game but San Antonio should be good this season.
4. Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets won both of their games in impressive fashion. First they beat the Jazz at home and then went on the road and …read more

Carmelo Anthony Carries Nuggets to 2-0 Start

Early on in the 2009-10 NBA season, there’s a relatively surprising name rising in the MVP talks — Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. Anthony is in great shape and his play early on has been spectacular. On Thursday, he helped the Nuggets rally past the Portland Trail Blazers to improve their record to 2-0.
Anthony finished the game with 41 points — 19 of which were scored in the fourth quarter. His big finish allowed the Nuggets to outscore the Blazers in the fourth 35-27 to win by a final score of 97-94. Anthony shot 11-of-21 from the field and …read more

Joey Graham to Attend Nuggets Camp

Joey Graham, who spent four years with the Toronto Raptors after being the 16th overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft, has a one-year deal to attend training camp with the Denver Nuggets. Considering that the Nuggets have 17 players on their training camp roster, Graham’s spot on the team is far from guaranteed.
Last year with the Raptors, Graham averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game. All three of those stats were career-highs for the 27-year-old who played college basketball with his twin brother, Stephen Graham, at Oklahoma State.
The Nuggets would love if Graham could finally …read more

JR Smith and Jason Richardson Suspended

JR Smith and Jason Richardson were both recently suspended by the NBA for driving offenses. As a result, both players will begin the 2009-10 season on the sidelines.
JR Smith, who has a chance to start for the Denver Nuggets this season, was suspended for seven games for a reckless driving charge he pleaded guilty to during the offseason. Last year, Smith averaged 15.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 27.7 minutes per game. Each of those stats were a career-high for Smith, who also shot 44.6% from the field and 39.7% from being the three-point arc.

Nuggets Re-sign Point Guard Anthony Carter

The Denver Nuggets recently lost Dahntay Jones to the Indiana Pacers and Linas Kleiza to a team in Europe. On Friday, they were able to keep one of their pieces — point guard Anthony Carter. Next year will be Carter’s fourth season with Denver.
Known for his defense, ability to pass the ball and his leadership, Carter played relatively well last year. In 78 games, he averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 assists in 22.9 minutes per game. He shot 43.3% from the field and 73.1% from the line.
In the playoffs, Carter played well against the Dallas Mavericks in the second round …read more

Arron Afflalo Traded to the Denver Nuggets

In an effort to open up more room under the salary cap, the Detroit Pistons traded Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe to the Denver Nuggets for a future second round pick. The Nuggets also received cash in the deal.
For the Pistons, this move made sense because they will now have about $3.5 million to go after a free agent such as Drew Gooden or Ben Gordon. Sharpe wasn’t in the long-term plans and Afflalo was a replaceable piece.
Afflalo was the gem of this trade for the Nuggets. After losing Dahntay Jones in free agency to the Indiana Pacers, the Nuggets …read more

Lakers Win, Headed to the 2009 NBA Finals

On Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers looked like a team very capable of winning an NBA championship. And they will soon get their chance. Playing in Denver, the Lakers dominated from start to finish and pounded the Nuggets by a final score of 119-92.
Sticking the dagger into Denver’s hearts was none other than Kobe Bryant. The Lakers superstar finished the game with 35 points, ten assists and six rebounds in 42 minutes of play. He connected on 12-of-20 shots from the field and all nine of his free throws.
Helping out Bryant on the night were bigmen Pau Gasol and …read more

Maurice Clarett Blog – Possible NFL Return?

Remember Maurice Clarett? He’s the former running back phenom who stared as a freshman at Ohio State. After being drafted by the Denver Broncos, his life spiraled out of control and now he’s sitting in a jail cell. Or to be more specific, he’s blogging in his jail cell.
You can find Maurice Clarett’s blog at MauriceClarett.wordpress.com. It’s a surprisingly well written blog. If he doesn’t decide to become a writer when he comes out of jail, it appears as if Maurice Clarett hasn’t given up his dream of an NFL return.
From a recent blog entry by Maurice Clarett:
I can’t hold …read more
