Although the newly acquired Caron Butler was out due to an allergic reaction, the newly acquired center did good work. In 39 minutes, Brendan Haywood had 11 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. He also helped limit Andrew Bynum to 10 points — more than five points below his average.

The big stars for Dallas on the night were Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry. Nowitzki led the way with 31 points and nine rebounds, while Terry had 30 points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Lakers, per usual, were led by Kobe Bryant, however the superstar didn’t have a very good game. He scored 20 points but missed 14-of-23 field goal attempts.

With the win, the Mavs retain their spot atop the Southwest Division with a record of 37-21. The 43-15 Lakers are still comfortably atop the Western Conference standings, even with the loss.

For Mavs fans in the stands, this type of play from Wade was all too familiar. Back in 2006, it was Wade’s superstar play that led the Miami Heat to a championship over the Mavericks.

Chris Bosh hit two free throws late to give the Eastern Conference a 141-139 lead over the Western Conference. After Carmelo Anthony missed a three-pointer at the buzzer, the East was victorious.

Anthony led the way for the West with 27 points and ten rebounds, while hometown hero Dirk Nowitzki chipped in 22 points in 28 minutes. But once again, Nowitzki lost in Dallas while Wade took home the win and the MVP.

After Nowitzki tied the game with a free throw with around two minutes remaining, Jonny Flynn’s layup gave the lead back to Minnesota. Erick Dampier split a pair at the line and then Nowitzki fouled Corey Brewer on a three-pointer — and Brewer went to the line and hit all three. Following a Nowitzki miss, rookie Wayne Ellington nailed a three-pointer to seal the win for the T’Wolves.

Minnesota had six players in double figures, including all five of their starters. Flynn had 19 points and seven assists, while Kevin Love had 17 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Nowitzki led the Mavs with 21 points in 37 minutes, even though he came off the bench. Jason Terry led the starters with 20 points.

The loss drops the Mavs to 31-19 on the season, while the T’Wolves improve to 12-38 following the win.

The Mavs led by as many as 53 points and outscored the Knicks in the second half 69-35. The Mavs were led in scoring by Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry, who each scored 20 points.

The 50-point margin of victory set multiple records including the biggest margin of victory in the history of the Mavericks and the worst home loss in the history of the Knicks. The only time the Knicks lost by more points was in 1960.

Said Mike D’Antoni, the head coach of the Knicks: “They took our heart out of us.”

You can say that again.

The Spurs, on the other hand, lost all their momentum when they came out sluggish to begin the fourth. They wasted a stellar performance by Tim Duncan, who scored 31 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out five assists and blocked two shots. Tony Parker had 21 points and six assists, while Manu Ginobili had 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

With the win, the Mavs take a three-game lead over the Spurs in the Southwest Division. At 25-11, Dallas has the second best record in the Western Conference and look like a team that will be difficult to beat in the playoffs — especially if Nowitzki continues to be a monster to close out ballgames.

On Saturady, Landry was forced to miss a game after undergoing five hours of dental work. On Sunday, Nowitzki missed a game. It’s unknown when either player will return, but they are both considered day-to-day.

Amazingly, even without Nowitzki, the Mavs were able to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tim Thomas led the way with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Jason Terry chipped in 19 points off the bench. LeBron James had 25 points but hit just 9-of-23 field goal attempts.

When you think of the Cleveland Cavaliers, you think of LeBron James or perhaps Shaquille O’Neal. Delonte West has also made some headlines and who can forget Anderson Varejao’s hair? One player who doesn’t jump off the page is starting point guard Mo Williams — even though he made the All-Star team last season.
On Saturady night, the Dallas Mavericks certainly knew his name. Williams finished the game 7-for-7 on three-pointers and score 25 points overall as the Cavs beat the Mavs by a final score of 111-95.

While LeBron has recently been sick, that wasn’t the reason why he missed the game. Cleveland’s top three stars sat out due to this game being a back-to-back affair.

Tim Thomas, who has been one of the better outside shooting bigmen in the NBA over the last decade, has decided to join the Mavs. He will reportedly receive a one-year deal at the veteran’s minimum.

Last season, Thomas split time between the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks. His best stint was with the Knicks. In 36 games, the 6-foot-10 power forward averaged 9.6 points. 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists, while shooting 46.1% from the floor, 42.1% from beyond the three-point line and 80.6% at the charity stripe.

In Dallas, Thomas will be asked to open driving lanes for the team’s stars such as Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard and the newly acquired Shawn Marion. He can open those lanes by pulling opposing bigmen out of the lane with is outside shooting.

Thomas was the 7th overall pick of the 1997 draft. Although he never has lived up to the potential he illustrated in college at Villanova, Thomas has evolved into a useful role player.
