“Star Tours” to Debut at Disneyland in 2011

If you going to Disneyland, you’ll want to schedule a trip in 2011 — especially if you are Star Wars fan. Jay Rasulo, the chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced that “Star Tours” will debut at Disneyland in 2011.
The “Star Tours” attraction, based off of the Star Wars films, will be a 3-D version that will take visitors to the Star Wars galaxy and show them familiar places.
“Storytelling is the DNA of Disney dreams,” said Rasulo, “and we’re always exploring new ways to tell new stories in new places.”

Disney Employee Killed in Monorail Crash

A Disney employee was killed on Sunday when a pair of monorail trains collided. The collision took place in Walt Disney World Resort at the Magic Kingdom area.
The killed Disney employee has been identified as Austin Wuennenberg, who was operating one of the monorails that collided. He was 21 years old and went to school at Stetson University. In addition to his death, six other people were treated — including the operator of the other monorail.
Right now, Disney isn’t saying what caused the crash. There is an investigation on the matter currently taking place.

Disney Eliminates Nearly 2,000 Jobs

Even the happiest places in the United States can’t hide from the national economic crises. On Friday, the Walt Disney Company announce that it will eliminate approximately 11% of its jobs in its United States theme parks. The total number of jobs lost is expected to fall between 1,900 and 2,000.
The blame for these job losses is being pinned on the fact that fewer people in the United States can afford to go on vacation these days. Disney has found that the global recession has hit their theme park industry harder than expected.
